Captivating the King Episode 14 Recap

The principal director, aware that the King has uncovered the truth, initiates plans to evade the impending crisis. Je-nam is summoned to court and realizes the King suspects the principal director in his late brother’s death, the spy mission, and other treasonous activities. Je-nam agrees to assist the King in gathering evidence against the principal director.

Hee-soo, recovering at Sang-hwa’s house, feels uneasy about Dal-ha’s arrest and is unaware of the King’s true intentions. She also laments that the King left without explaining himself. In the assembly, officials oppose Dal-ha’s interrogation regarding the three-year-old spy issue. The King, infuriated by their opposition, dismisses the assembly abruptly.

Myung-ha and other ministers, who are against the principal director, privately question Myung-ha about his late father’s fixation on Lee In arranging the spy. Myung-ha recalls Hyun-bo’s information about Dal-ha and Lee In’s supposed meetings at the courtesan house. Realizing the King and Dal-ha met recently for the first time, Myung-ha confronts Hyun-bo, understanding the pieces of the puzzle.

The principal director confides in Queen Dowager, revealing his involvement in the three-year-old spy case. He subtly warns the Queen Dowager that any attempt by the King to cast him aside will result in his retaliation, unsettling her. Hee-soo, through Je-nam, learns of the King’s plans and decides to meet him. During their meeting, the King confesses the truth about his late brother’s last words and the false ascension to the throne. Hee-soo assures the King of her unwavering support.

In a meeting with Myung-ha, Hee-soo acknowledges the King’s efforts, but Myung-ha criticizes her for siding with the King despite their revenge plan. Hee-soo later meets Dal-ha, and they recall the recognition by the principal director’s servant, Mok-dong. They realize that Mok-dong was the one who exposed the spy to the Qing officials.

Sang-hwa attempts to arrest Mok-dong but discovers he’s out of town. The principal director pays Mok-dong to leave, but Sang-hwa’s team catches up, leading to an assassin killing Mok-dong. The King confronts the principal director, giving him two options: confess and face minimal punishment or be publicly interrogated. Hyun-bo convinces the principal director to cooperate and persuades Myung-ha to join their plan.

In front of the assembly, the principal director confesses to his crimes, but the King insists on evidence. The court lady, the King’s only witness, receives a warning from the principal director. It is revealed that she overheard Sang-hoon and the late king’s conversation, informing the principal director about the spy. Fearing for her life, the court lady takes a box from the principal director, and the episode concludes with her applying a red lip tint, hinting at a critical revelation during the impending night.
