Hulu’s Candy has been a treat for true crime and suspense thriller lovers. The miniseries created by Nick Antosca and Robin Veith, featured Jessica Biel in the titular role along with Melanie Lynskey as Betty Gore, Pablo Schreiber as Allan Gore, Justin Timberlake as Sheriff Steve Deffibaugh and Timothy Simons as Pat Montgomery. Consisting of five episodes that were released daily over the week, the 5-night event on Hulu garnered a lot of views as well as some heavy discussions.
The show recounted the murder of Betty Gore and, the subsequent trial of Candy Montgomery, who was accused of killing Betty. The ending of the show left a lot of people shocked and gasping for more, wanting to know beyond the story on the screen. So, if you are someone like that, this is just the place for you to be at.
Was Candy found guilty of killing Betty Gore?
Betty Gore was killed on the morning of June 13, 1980. After four months of this incident, there was an eight-day trial held at McKinney where Candy Montgomery took the stand as she was accused of killing Gore. Montgomery pleaded self-defence and set out an argument that Gore was the first one to attack her with a 3-foot axe, twice.

After this, even a psychiatrist testified on behalf of Montgomery’s defence that Gore’s use of the word ‘shush’ triggered childhood trauma in Montgomery and that she suffered from a dissociation reaction. The self-defence claim was soon accepted by the jury. And in October 1980, Candy Montgomery was acquitted of the charge of murdering Betty Gore.
Where is Candy now?
By the end of the miniseries on Hulu, it was revealed that Candy and her husband, Pat divorced four years after the trial. As for our titular character, she relocated to Georgia and changed her name, although she kept her maiden name to get a fresh start. She started her new life as a mental health counsellor. Nothing more is known about her as she has remained away from the public eye since the trial.
