Bruno Mars Music Videos
That’s What I Like
Dancing by himself, the whole music video is him wearing a striped black and white shirt and black pants against an ambient blue background. This is one of the most muted music videos, Bruno Mars has put on his YouTube channel, the only accompaniment to his person is some hand-drawn animation of some of the items he has mentioned in the song. If it wasn’t clear before, this video shows exactly how talented he is at carrying a performance all by himself. Most of the song is filmed in one take and it doesn’t even change angles until much later.
The depth of field in the music video comes from the changing lighting and the animation but also from the artist’s body language. He created an interesting experience for everyone.
Uptown Funk
This is one of the first few songs by Bruno Mars that established him as a performer and artist in his own right. He made music for people to have fun. It was catchy, enjoyable, and perfect to replicate. The dance moves from this song became iconic with many people still remembering them when this song plays in public places. He has a brilliant capability of making easy dance moves look smooth and expensive. It comes with a certain kind of nonchalance and swagger which makes the whole thing exciting to see and to recreate with people around us.
Finesse (feat. Cardi B)
Cardi B and Bruno Mars dominate the music video. While she comes in to do the rap, Bruno Mars sings the lyrics while dancing with two other people in the video. It starts off pretty mellow with simple steps to introduce the tone of the song but then becomes a little more layered and involves some serious camera moves that make the video even more visually pleasing to see. He has such smooth footwork in this music video, it is a subtle trait that becomes even more clear in the next video.
The whole vibe of this music video is so party-like and Cardi B’s entrance in the song just ups the ante by involving all the dancers and musicians on the floor. Additionally, the shooting technique in this video, gives this whole floating look to the video, adding to their performance.
24K Magic- 2016 AMA Performance
While this video starts off pretty mellow once again, with him singing and moving along to the music in chill form, he decides to take a dance break in the middle that truly showcased his talent at dancing. Bruno Mars sings and dances, and the energy in the room automatically goes up. He is such a versatile artist switching from complicated choreographed performances to freestyle dancing on ballads, this song shows exactly how he does that.
Fly As Me- Silk Sonic- BET Soul Train Awards 2021
This video doesn’t feature a lot of complicated dancing, but his performance along with Anderson .Paak is unparalleled. He managed to create a room tone with the microphone and simple body movements. He was dancing and singing along while making some of the most complicated visual harmonies. This collaboration with Silk Sonic allowed him to expand on his danceability and vocal acumen, while also maintaining his own voice and persona as an artist. This song explores that perfectly well.
