Britney Spears’ ex-husband Sam Asghari is speaking up after the “Toxic” singer voluntarily checked herself into a rehab facility to get help with substance abuse. The singer faced a DUI arrest in March when authorities found her driving recklessly. After going through her car, they also found an unknown substance, leading them to believe that the pop star was driving under the influence.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s office let her go the following morning. A rep for Britney Spears revealed that she had been feeling extremely ashamed and wanted to get help. The spokesperson also confirmed that her whole family is standing behind her in support.
“This was her own choice. This isn’t about one substance in particular; it has a dual purpose … This is about Britney putting her mental health first and taking some time for herself to focus on the things that are important to her,” the unnamed source added.
“She’s dedicated to working on her health. This is something she really wants to do for herself. This was her own decision. “
Now another name has been added to the list of Britney Spears’ well-wishers as Asghari told TMZ that Spears’ seeking professional help is the right move for her.
”I think it’s great. And as long as the person is in charge of that, it’s all good,” Asghari said.
Britney Spears met Sam Asghari on the set of her “Slumber Party” music video in 2016. The two kept in touch and eventually started dating about five months after filming. They were often spotted together at NBA games. They also made their relationship official on social media, often posting snuggly photos together.
Asghari publicly showed support for his partner Britney Spears as she fought to end her years-long conservatorship. On Sept. 12, 2021, she announced her engagement to him. The lovebirds tied the knot in Los Angeles on June 9, 2022. However, their marriage didn’t last long, and the two ended up getting divorced only 14 months after their wedding. The estranged lovers have not kept in touch since then.
Talking about her DUI arrest in March, a spokesperson for Britney Spears told E! News, “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable.”
“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life,” they added.
Asghari also spoke to the news outlet following her arrest in March. “I wish her the most success and recovery… I think privacy is the most important thing when it comes to that,” he said in his statement.
Britney Spears’ other ex and the father of her two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, Kevin Federline also nurtures similar sentiments, according to his attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan.
Kaplan spoke to TMZ on Federline’s behalf and stated, “Kevin is aware of the reports that she has checked into rehab and that if she needs help, he is happy that she is getting help and that the decision appears to be one that she made and not one imposed upon her by others if it was.”
He further explained, “The key is that whatever the recommended treatment plan is, she follows it and completes it.”
