Blue Lock Episode 24 Review- Finale

This was an awkward episode for a few reasons. For one, this did not end anything despite being the final episode. It didn’t need to, of course, for the show still has a lot of legs and a Blue Lock Season 2 and a movie based on Nagi’s life have already been announced. However, the show still could have nee paced better to ensure that it ended the first season on a better note than this one. This episode also featured a lot of things that came out of absolutely nowhere, which is becoming a trend with this show.

The first among them was the match between the international team against the team of our protagonist, Yoichi. Not only was it still plagued by the absolutely horrendous voice acting that we saw a preview of in the previous episode, but it also ended in a manner that put a dent in all the excitement their presence brought. Nobody expected anything different to happen, but the manner in which it happened could have used a little more refinement. They weren’t bad, but listening to them talk almost made my ears bleed, which counts heavily against them.

Blue Lock Episode 24 also saw the end of the third selection round for everyone after the match against the foreign team, and we saw a lot of talent dribble into the same place where Yoichi, Rin, and the rest of their team stood. We saw a lot of old faces and even more new ones, as new antagonists seemed to have been already set for whatever the show had planned next. The reveals were handled well, but the show still couldn’t avoid some more surprises coming our way while doing this. Oh well, whatever happened was part of the game, and the show used it to raise the stakes in the competition suitably.

Looking at the episode as a whole, it managed to do whatever it set out to do well. It wanted the tone to change from jubilation to desperation, which it accomplished. Blue Lock Episode 24 also moved the central conflict from the players going against each other to them fighting a common enemy who doubts their capabilities, which should do wonders for certain characters like Rin, Yoichi, and Nagi. We lost a few things and characters along the way, but depending upon the next arc, this will all prove to be worth it.

Still, all these compliments don’t stop Blue Lock Episode 24 from being a rather odd offering for a finale. Well then, at this point, let’s make this a “see you later” and not a goodbye, as I expect news and updates about the show to drop very frequently based on its popularity and subject matter. It has earned most of that accolade by being an exciting show which is not afraid to make some tough decisions, and some hard left turns, and this episode was the perfect representation of that.
Verdict
Blue Lock Episode 24 showed some exciting promise for the future of the series, but designing that future hurt the pacing and quality of this episode a tiny bit.
