Bloody Daddy Review: Jio Cinema’s latest action thriller film stars Shahid Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Ronit Roy, Rajeev Khandelwal, Diana Penty, Vivian Bhathena, Zeishan Quadri and others. It is a Hindi adaptation of the 2011 French film Sleepless Night. The French movie was also remade in 2015 as a Tamil film, Thoongaa Van, that featured Kamal Haasan.

The Hindi film is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and written by Ali, along with Aditya Basu. The cinematography is done by Marcin Laskawiec, and the editing is done by Steven H Bernard.

Bloody Daddy Review: Plot Summary

Jio Cinema’s Bloody Daddy (2023) is set in November 2021, when Indians are getting their life back to normal after the second Covid-19 wave. The crime rate has gone up as the pandemic affected businesses and the livelihood of many people. Drug-related crimes have also gone up. Sumair (Shahid), an NCB officer in Gurugram, attacks a drug peddler, which angers the drug lord, Sikandar. Played by Ronit Roy, the drug lord kidnaps Sumair’s son.

An angry Sumair is ready to go to any lengths to rescue his son, even if it means fighting against his people. Some secrets unveil as Sumair fights the bad guys. Will he succeed in saving his son, Atharv? We find out everything in the end.

Bloody Daddy Review: Discussion

Bloody Daddy starts well. Sumair’s bond and conversations with his son Atharv will leave you in splits. During these sequences, you get an idea that the movie won’t necessarily have a serious tone to it. Watching Sumair execute his plans to get back his son is quite thrilling. The characters are wicked, and also weird. The exchanges between them sometimes goes overboard and makes you laugh. My favourite scenes are Shahid standing on a table and the sequence towards the climax between Ronit-Shahid-Sanjay.

For Ali Abbas Zafar’s directorial, Marcin Laskawiec used tracking shots in several scenes. Sometimes, the camera zooms closely on Shahid’s face, thus giving us a closer view of the pent-up anger. The camera work is amazing for some fight sequences, especially the kitchen fight between Shahid and Rajeev. The action scenes are choreographed well, which is a treat for people who enjoy such a genre.

Bloody Daddy movie also has several flaws. The plot gets predictable in the end, because of a slightly prolonged screenplay. In certain scenes, Shahid keeps a straight face. It felt like he is doing his best to keep a straight face because others around him were doing some outlandish things.

Bloody Daddy Review 1

Diana Penty turned out to be a disappointment with hardly anything good to offer. Rajeev Khandelwal, an underrated acting gem, has delivered a good act. He brings a twist to the tale. It was refreshing to see Ronit Roy being notorious on screen. Sanjay Kapoor was a weirder version of Ronit’s character. The duo keeps you entertained.

Bloody Daddy is Shahid Kapoor’s second OTT release of 2023 and first movie on a streaming platform. He impressed the viewers with his stellar act in Prime Video’s crime series, Farzi, earlier this year. In his latest release, Kapoor again plays a man who’s perpetually feisty and beats the crap out of the bad guys. His character Sumair has to save his son. The actor gives a fantastic performance and intrigues you with action scenes and violent rage.

Bloody Daddy Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, Bloody Daddy movie is for people in the mood for some kicks, punches and gunshots. It is high on action and full of batshit crazy people who will make you chuckle. What I also liked is that even though the story is set just a few months after the deadly second wave, it doesn’t leave you disturbed by making you relive those difficult days.

The film is now streaming on Jio Cinema.
