Blood Coast Season 2 Review
In the first season of the French crime series Blood Coast, a group of vigilante police officers keeps Marseille’s crime under control with their unusual methods. However, the series was quite underwhelming, with a ton of uninteresting moments and forgettable characters.
Season 2 feels somewhat more of the same. I enjoy watching crime thrillers a lot, but Blood Coast Season 2 feels sluggish and boring as we see clashing gangs and Lyes’s colleagues trying to stay afloat as a personnel change takes place. In the midst of this, Lyes escapes from prison, making things more complicated.

There are a lot of big talks all around, and everyone tries to backstab everyone else, but Blood Coast Season 2 doesn’t pack any punches for me. Every character feels generic, and there are hardly any twists or turns. People die, are shot at and bark orders at one another, but there’s not a lot of impact in any way.
Some personal issues also plague the characters, but that, too, sometimes takes a back seat and, most importantly, doesn’t leave the impact that you’d expect from an action-crime series. Plus, the action, too, is generic and repetitive. There’s nothing that differentiates the series from others, and on top of that, it doesn’t even create a mystery in any sense.
Another interesting thing that I saw in the series is that it goes into the story very tough and no bullshit, but the payoff is lukewarm at best. The series doesn’t commit fully to anything; neither is it a memorable crime show, nor does it have impactful emotional moments. The interactions between Lyes and Ali are interesting, but they drone on for too long and end up losing impact soon enough.

The morally ambiguous nature of the show is possibly the only part of the show that can interest viewers. You expect cops to be good through thick and thin, but that’s not the case with Blood Coast. The series should’ve explored that point a bit more, and although the consequences come for the gang in this series, I think it fails to truly get to the bottom of the problem.
The small twists in the series add to waning interest as things get complicated for everyone. Viewers will find themselves curious of Lyes’s next move as he walks a thin line that can end in his entire family’s demise. That’s thrilling and an exciting watch, but at around 6 hours of runtime, it’s not enough.
Final Thoughts

Blood Coast Season 2 continues to be disappointing as the power dynamics shift in Marseille and new things emerge. I guess the politics is interesting, but the series is so slow that it’s difficult to find interest in the storytelling.

Very interesting take and can see where you are coming from. However, I really enjoyed season two and binged it within the first day release. I agree that there isn’t enough character development or even taking us on a journey through the main character. I think it may be the way it was written but it definitely would have been better from a more personal perspective and us seeing the main character develop throughout the season 2. One thing that really stuck out to me particularly this season is that the female characters are completely sidelined and not explored at all. From Alice,Audrey, Fabiana, Luci and even Leila Sidi would have been great to see more from their perspective or their characters explored. How can I feel so disconnected to Luci that even when she died it was not emotional… even the way her husband took it was quite mediocre and not developed enough.
