Born on January 6, Redmayne started his professional acting career in West End theatre before making his screen debut in 1996 with guest appearances on many television shows. The actor has always had an eye for picking up unique roles even at the very beginning of his career when he played a schizophrenic in the 2007 Tom Kalin film Savage Grace.

The 2015 biographical romance drama by Tom Hooper, The Danish Girl is based on the 2000 novel by David Ebershoff of the same name and loosely inspired by the lives of Danish painters Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. Eddie Redmayne who plays the role of Elbe, one of the initial known recipients of sex reassignment surgery, is breathtakingly beautiful and brilliant. From the nuanced take of a man identifying as a woman to the passion to live with one’s head up high, Redmayne honoured Lili Elbe in this role which is nothing less than perfect. The film received a lot of accolades including the Oscars and BAFTAs.

Another biographical romantic drama, The Theory of Everything by James Marsh is adapted from the 2007 Jane Hawking memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen by Anthony McCarten. Documenting the life of acclaimed theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, the talented Eddie Redmayne plays the main role leaving everyone watching the film with an impactful impression of his acting genius. Playing a man with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) who finds success in the field of physics but, has a rocky marriage, Eddie Redymane does it all and more as he offers us one of his most unforgettable roles.

Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts film series

Standing out amidst an ensemble cast is truly a difficult task, irrespective of playing the protagonist in the story. Yet Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts film series, which serves as the prequel to J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter stories, is an adorable, brave and endearing character. Directed by David Yates, the film franchise has so far two films on the list: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018). A third instalment of the film Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is set to release in April 2022.
