Becoming Witch Episode 8 Review: A Murderous Turn Arrives

Becoming Witch (The Witch is Alive/마녀는 살아있다)is a mystery-comedy Korean drama series created by Kim Yun-chul and Park Pa-ran and starring Lee Yu-ri, Lee Min-young and Yoon So-yi. The TV Chosun series has 12 episodes total and Becoming Witch Episode 8 has a runtime of 65 minutes.

Netflix describes the show as:

– Becoming Witch Episode 8 Review Contains Mild Spoilers –

Becoming Witch Episode 8 opens with a shot of Jin-a and Ma-ri driving in a car, wondering what would happen if they could go in the past and choose differently. We come to the portion where we left off our the previous episode at. Su-ji is back home and Ma-ri and Nak-gu hide Go-eun and pretend to be together. However, Go-eun does not keep quite and soon enough Su-ji finds her.

It is a war of hair pulling posts that where we see Su-ji grab Go-eun by her hair and pull her. Go-eun attacks her back and seeks support from Nak-gu, where the latter is in a pickle between choosing his daughter and love. Ultimately, he ends up shouting at Su-ji, upsetting her. And, Nak-gu and Ma-ri sleep in the same bed. On waking up the next morning, they are scared and shocked at the development.

Another addition to the scene is Ma-ri and Nak-gu’s mothers both coming to the house and hitting Nak-gu for what he is doing. They question Go-eun and get into a verbal conflict with both Nak-gu and Go-eun. The family finally decided to put the situation of divorce to vote and we see one bribing another family member. Ultimately it comes down to everyone agreeing to the divorce, except two people.

It turns out later the two people are Ma-ri and Go-eun. Latter we see Go-eun leave Nak-gu. We don’t know why she breaks off things but, Nak-gu threatens to kill Ma-ri if she does not get Go-eun back as he suspects Ma-ri has done something to break things off. But, Ma-ri isn’t scared but, convinced that things will get over only if one of them dies.

Meanwhile, Jin-a throws off Woo-bin from the terrace as we have seen in the last episode. However, he is saved after he falls into a pool and is pulled out. Jin-a gets her investment back from Du-chang the next day but, is tempted to put her money into investing in cryptocurrency. They invest all the money they have and, on the launch of the cryptocurrency ‘Civa Coin’, their money skyrockets with the growth rate of the coin.

But, when the coin crosses the 3000 mark the internet goes off and it is chaos. Du-chang is nowhere to be found but, he assures on the call that things are okay and that everyone should go home. The next day, Jin-a and Woo-bin go to look for Du-Chang’s Civa Coin office. While looking for the office, Jin-a gets a call from an Insurance Investigator who knows about Woo-bin being alive and not reported. On reaching the potential office, it turns out to be a toilet paper factory and it is apparent that Du-chang has scammed them and the other investors.

Hui-si’s shock of knowing she cannot get pregnant leaves her devasted and also the fact that Mu-young has known about this since her first miscarriage. We don’t see much of her in this episode but, only her interacting with her IVF doctor and his kid outside the hospital and school, respectively. It turns out Hui-su is suffering from cancer as she gets diagnosed after she mistakes her symptoms for pregnancy.

She goes for a dine-out with Mu-young where she gets the property papers which she says will serve as her alimony. Mu-young suggests that she is rushing into the divorce things. Hui-su does not reveal about her divorce but, says how she has wasted her time with Mu-young and is not ready to waste another second. The entire conversation is quite hurtful to witness.

The two visit the family court and get their divorce finalized. Hui-su there after goes on a shopping spree to buy children’s clothes and spend some alone time together.

Becoming Witch Episode 8 Ending

Becoming Witch Episode 8 ends by giving us context of why we see Ma-ri and Jin-a driving together at the start of the episode. Turns out that after losing all of their money in the Civa Coin deal, Jin-a attacks Woo-bin at a Gas Station. We get to see her with a piece of her bloody heel in her hand.

Ma-ri, on the other hand, is questioned by the police for writing about Na-gu in The Husband’s Death Note. Although she deletes the account, Nak-gu gets to know about it and questions her about it. He also finds a yellow raincoat worn by the killer of Suk-hui’s husband putting Ma-ri in a bad spot. However, before Nak-gu is able to contact 911, Ma-ri knocks him down.

Later we see the two women riding off in the distance.
