Aryan and Meera Episode 2 Review: By Netflix For Netflix

Aryan and Meera is a rom-com series exclusively premiering on Netflix’s YouTube channel. Directed by Tapasvi Mehta and starring Taaruk Raina and Zayn Marie Khan, Aryan and Meera episode 2 is around 13 minutes long.

As Netflix puts it, Aryan and Meera episode 1 description reads:

It’s Ben vs Paxton vs Football, and Aryan is right at the center of it! What happens when best friends crash your anniversary date with game night plans? Spoiler: IT DOES NOT GO WELL. ????

We only have one suggestion for Aryan: Game night – Mission Abort!!

– Aryan and Meera episode 2 review does not contain spoilers –

Aryan and Meera episode 2 starts with Aryan and Meera celebrating their anniversary. However, with 13-minute long episodes, it feels like the series is trying to push Netflix on those who don’t have a subscription. I ignored it in the first episode, but now it just feels like they’re trying too hard. It’s like Netflix really wanted more Indian audiences to join the subscription service and thus they created this short series with a very basic storyline to push that agenda forward.

That’s the reason why I think that Aryan and Meera episode 2 feels like such an insincere effort as a TV series. Every minute the characters reference some Netflix show. It feels like they’re trying to tell the unpaid audience – see what you’re missing! You don’t get these references, do you?! It’s so stupid.

Anyway, Aryan tries to find out how to get rid of his friends on their anniversary night, which his friends gatecrash. Unfortunately, the story or the way it is presented does not hit home. There are no moments of genuine emotional connection between the story and us to either make us laugh or make our hearts flutter. The constant advertisement, additionally, absolutely take away from the charm of the show. Because let’s face it, no one talks like this to people they are close to. It’s very unrealistic and cringy.

The lead pair looks cute enough for us to want to see them more, but the plot is as basic as it gets. Even when Aryan tries various tactics to get rid of his friends, it still doesn’t invite laughter from us. And before you know it, it’s over. The series tries too hard to put as many Netflix references as possible within its short runtime instead of packing more relatable and emotional content for the audiences.

Summing up: Aryan and Meera episode 2

Although the show started out well and was quite relatable, the constant Netflix adverts are what, ultimately, takes us out of the viewing experience. Aryan and Meera episode 2 does nothing but trying to push Never Have I Ever to our faces so that people who are not subscribed pay for that Netflix subscription.

Aryan & Meera is streaming on Netflix India YouTube.
