Apartment 404 Episode 2 Review: Not an Exciting Episode for Everyone Neither Boring

Apartment 404 Episode 2 Review: The trending Apartment 404 is a survival show produced by Jung Cheol Min starring various Korean famous actors and idols like Yoo Jae-suk, Blackpink Jennie, Chae Tae-hyun, Lee Jung-ha, Yang Se-chan and Oh Na-ra. While survival shows aren’t new in South Korea, something about this show that we need to talk about is the mysteries the crew will solve while transcending back to time period of the deadly cases. While the show’s theme seems rigid, the crew members are the right ones to make it look interesting. News hits that TXT’s Yeonjun will also be appearing as a guest.

Jeong Cheol-min, the producer and director, has been a part of hit variety shows such as Sixth Sense and Running Man and popular host and comedian Yoo Jae-suk is also a known figure in the comedy circuit and has also worked with the director on both shows while actress Oh Na-ra has been a part of Sixth Sense.

Meanwhile, comedian Yang Se-chan was a part of Running Man. Lee Jung-ha has been a part of many variety shows as a host but will take part in a variety show for the first time. Lastly, Jennie Kim, popularly known as Jennie, is a part of the enigmatic K-pop group BLACKPINK.

Apartment 404 Episode 2 Review

Two episodes are out and so far the show is doing its level best. Adding Blackpink’s Jennie is such a booster for the show given the amount of international and domestic fans she has. Very importantly, Lee Jung-ha is also a rising star and adding him makes the show worthwhile. Coming to the second episode, it has its plus and minus. Speaking of the plus, the cast is spectacular. All of them are naturally humourous, and enthusiastic, and have great chemistry and vibe with each other.

Moreover, the direction is great, the cinematography is lovely, the apartment’s setup looks promising and the mysteries that they’re going to be solving seem thrilling. It’s nice to dwell on past crime stories and uncover certain events via a group of comedic people. As they’re diving into the 1986 case, it’s informative as well as entertaining. Also, let’s talk about how they’ve added the original clips regarding the missing girl case and also ended the episode with a firm message.

The comedy essence and their natural conversation loaded with wit, make it easy for the viewers to watch a thrilling episode in a lighthearted way rather than biting their nails and watching it (usually true stories make people anxious). While all these make a lot of sense, there are some advantages. The first one is, that they’re having fun and solving mysteries, yes, but will every audience wish to see that?

Sometimes as a thriller lover, I’d rather prefer watching a real crime show with gore pictures and such intense acting. Why would I choose to watch 6 goofy people laughing and making jokes while working out a mystery? Yes, it helps certain viewers to enjoy a good true story without having to worry about fear factor but isn’t that the main theme of mystery shows? Moreover, a survival show usually keeps one on their toes but Apartment 404 seems like a family series where one simply watches six people have fun.

Fans of the cast will love this show as they get to see their favourite ones have a good time. Additionally, the show allows fans to see more different sides of their favourites. But for a common audience, this show isn’t going to be working a 100 percent but yes might settle as a one-time watch only if they’re intrigued by the way the show is flowing. Anyhow, for two episodes so far, Apartment 404 isn’t doing poorly or boring but is having a balanced presentation. Hopefully, the next few episodes might change this perception, at least mine.
