Anne+ The Film: Everything to Know About Netflix’s Latest Dutch Drama

Anne+ The Film is a new Dutch-language romantic drama movie directed by Valerie Bisscheroux. It is a one hour thirty-five minute long LGBTQ movie based on the story of the title character Anne. The screenplay is written by Maud Weimeijer. The film is said to be intimate and emotional. It will also deal with social issues and how teenagers deal with and expresses their sexual orientation in society.

The film is said to be the sequel of the Dutch TV series with the same name Anne+. The series premiered on BNNVARA and 3LAB on September 30, 2018. Season 1 consists of 6 episodes, with a running time of twelve minutes. Season 2 includes 8 episodes, which are 24 minutes long. The film is to be released worldwide by Netflix and is produced by Millstreet Films. Channel 4, the British television network bought the rights of the series, for streaming on Walter Presents, in the UK. It was available on the platform in June 2020.

The cast includes Hanna van Vliet who will play the title character Anne, Jouman Fattal plays the role of our protagonist’s lover Sara and Thorn de Vries is one of the new addition in the universe of the series.

Anne+ The Film Plot/ Synopsis:

The film revolves around a twenty-something old lesbian woman, who is a university graduate. She is preparing to move to Montreal from Amsterdam to write a novel that gets criticized and she like the character in the novel is also lost and still figuring out what to do. While balancing her social life and writing career meets with Lou a non-binary drag king who happens to have a completely opposite mindset and attitude from our protagonist. Throughout the film, we see our central character trying to balance her writing and her social life often stumbling after every step but hoping to find a proper direction and complete her novel.

Anne+ The Film Release Date, Trailer and More:

The film is slated to release on Netflix on February 11, 2022, worldwide. In the Youtube channel the trailer is described as “Anne’s to-do list: write her book, pack up her in Amsterdam and move to Montréal to be with her long-term girlfriend Saar who’d like to be polyamorous. It’s all going to plan (sort of) until Anne meets non-binary drag artist Lou who offers her a much needed different perspective on love, life and sexuality.”
