Netflix’s Amy Schumer Presents Parental Advisory Review Does Not Contain Spoilers

Amy Schumer Presents Parental Advisory: Dishing Family Life or Blowing Off Steam?

It is Amy Schumer who starts off this stand-up special. She brings to stage some COVID jokes, which, apparently everyone is tired of. However, she follows it up with some fun material concerning her son and how it is being a parent. Schumer is definitely a hit-or-miss kinda comedian and, the effort she puts in to generate a peal of laughter is apparent as the crowd isn’t all enthusiastic.

However, when Ron Funchess arrives on stage, it is a laughter roll. The Undateable actor really hits it off with the viewers when he delves deep into his two marriages and a segment about bottled water. The funny, proud transgender Jaye McBride takes over the stage next and, we are all left thinking will we ever be over the COVID jokes that come out of every comedian nowadays? From sex to vaccines, she covers it all. But, it is actually the perfect landing of her trans jokes that gives everyone a comfortable laugh.

With the third curtain call, Schumer is back on stage and the second time around it really hits that the Trainwreck actor might not have all the punches in her pockets anymore. It revolves around the Oscars 2022 and, we all know what that means- a slap and that one joke Schumer wasn’t allowed to say, obviously. Nothing new, funny or fresh, in all honesty.

But, the ball hits right out of the park with the entry of Christina Pazsitzky, who really nails the essence of the stand-up special- a good, wholesome jokes on parenting! Rachel Feinstein is the next funny star on stage and it is no surprise that with her ‘that accent’ she’s got the joke cat in her box. However, the decent of COVID jokes don’t come to an end with Chris Distefano taking over the stage next.

The saving grace is Lil Rel Howery with a cowboy costume in this show. He comes in to close the up-and-down journey of the special by cracking dad-daughter jokes that land at all the right places.

Amy Schumer Presents Parental Advisory: Final Verdict

Overall, the stand-up special was surely not one of the best pieces of stand-up comedy out there when we just had Bo Burnham release an extended cut to his Inside special. But, it isn’t as controversial and subjectively offensive as Bill Burr Presents: Friends Who Kill released recently on Netflix. The lineup for this comedy special was great with some really good performances by Christina and Howery. However, it had its downs with old jokes and unfunny sets.

By the end of the day, comedy is subjective and taking a path to stick to just parental jokes, mostly might just save this special from facing a turbulent landing of conflicting opinions. It is funny and then, it is not but, it is surely convincing enough to let you take a chance and decide for yourself.

  1. I found everyone but Christina funny. I couldn’t get the whole “you smell that? It smells bad.” I didn’t laugh at a single thing that woman said. Overall an OK watch. Not a “laugh so hard I’m gonna pee on myself,” but entertaining. Oh and Amy wears that skirt quite nicely@

  2. I watched the special last night and found it was not funny at all. I’ve enjoyed Amy’s previous work, as well as di Stefano’s and Christina’s. But this time around I found the routines terribly weak.

    • Thank you for your feedback. Yes, the show is a weak one. However, I think Christina did a decent job in comparison to others.
