Amitabh Bachchan Birthday Special: A Look at Big B’s Invincible Avatar Onscreen

It’s been more than four decades since the Angry Young Man of Hindi cinema made his debut with Saat Hindustani(1969) on the big screen. Ever since then, Amitabh Bachchan his performances have created a generation of fans. With a filmography comprising more than 175 Bollywood films.

The presence of Big B on the celluloid meant the arrival of an invincible character, that will not be defeated at any cost. He created a persona of grit and passion on screen, that is unmatchable to this date. Now, on his 80th birthday, we take a look at some of the most impactful roles in his career.

Azaad in Main Azaad Hoon(1989)

Main Azaad Hoon has to be one of the most underrated movies of Amitabh Bachchan’s career. The way dawns the fictitious role of the leader of the masses, is by far the best of his performances. Even though the film did not do well at the box office, the climax of the film is remembered for its chant of “Itne Bazu Itne Sar”.

The film was written by Javed Akhtar and directed by Tinu Anand. Moreover, it starred Shabana Azmi in a crucial role.

Vijay Khanna in Zanjeer(1973)

Often regarded as the game-changing movie of Big B’s career, Zanjeer tells the story of an honest inspector who sets on the path of finding the murderer of his parents. With the help of an enemy-turned-friend and a street-wise girl.

The film features one of the most iconic dialogues of Amitabh Bachchan’s career and a series of super-hit songs. It was directed/produced by Prakash Mehra and written by the legendary duo of Salim-Javed. The cast included Jaya Bachchan, Pran, Ajit Khan and Om Prakash.

Sikandar in Muqaddar Ka Sikandar(1978)

Another epic rollercoaster of emotions and musical composition includes Amitabh Bachchan’s Muqaddar Ka Sikandar. The premise of the film is set around an orphan boy who works his way to the top and later gets heartbroken after a rejection. Big B and his legendary pairing with Vinod Khanna are well remembered for the blockbuster songs that are evergreen to this date.

The film was directed by Prakash Mehra and written by Kader Khan, Vijay Kaul, and Laxmikant Sharma. Notably, the plot of the movie was loosely based on the Novel Devdas.

Ravi in Satte Pe Satta(1982)

This Amitabh Bachchan starter is about the story of Ravi, Indu and his brothers. Where Indu is a nurse played by Hema Malini, who falls in love with Ravi and later marries him. The film then shifts to the big trouble created by Ravi’s brothers.

The film is set of drama, family and hardcore emotions carried forward by the performance of Amitabh Bachchan. It was directed by Raj N Sippy and produced by Romu N Sippy. Furthermore, Satte pe Satta was narrated by Kader Khan.
