Alchemy of Souls has made history in the fantasy genre for Kdramas and we have loved every bit of the show that never failed to surprise us. Who would have thought that this show will make us eagerly wait for its release every week just after one episode? We got hooked on this show and we are proud of it.

On August 26, the creators of the show confirmed the return of the show in December 2022 which gave fans a wonderful surprise right before the final week of the show. While it was always known that the show will have two parts, there was no news about the release date of season 2 until just recently.

With the new female lead Go Yoon-jung along with the same cast members, fans are having a hard time saying goodbye to their beloved Jung So-min. But after the release of the season 2 preview at the end of Alchemy of Souls episode 20, fans are now eagerly looking forward to what the new female lead will bring to the show.

The preview has got fans excited for the sequel which brings the cast a more mature look as the schemes continue to create chaos in Daeho. A reborn Jang Uk, a revengeful Jin Cho-yeon, the mature crown prince, Seo Yul and Park Dang-gu, all have only added fuel to our excitement and we cannot wait for December to arrive.

The preview clip has already got us making theories and what is to happen while Jang Uk uses Naksu’s sword to kill soul shifters in the video. The tension has really risen and we cannot wait for the upcoming season.

Will there be an Alchemy of Souls Season 2?

Yes. If you haven’t already guessed then let me tell you that there will be an Alchemy of Souls season 2 with the cast consisting of Go Yoon-jung, Lee Jae-wook, Hwang Min-hyun, alongside other cast members from season 1.

Part 2 of the Korean show is set to release in December 2022.

  12. I like the way they end the season 1. They left Jin Bu Yeon story open as well. So I’m hoping Jung So Min will still be part of Season two even though it’s not confirmed and denied her appearance on next season. But the next season will not make any sense if they will not show what happened to Mudeok after been rescued and how Naksu gain back her body.
    I think the people who rescued Mudeok are from Jinjowon which makes me think Jung So Min will still be on season 2. ????

I read that they were trying to have Jung So Min return, but didn’t want to confirm because “that would be a spoiler.” I have never been so hooked on a drama before; however I can’t even rewatch old episodes because they just make sad, now — that whole story of Mu-Deok and Uk, just to end up like this? Really hoping that she returns as Bu-Yeon to deliver Jin Mu to justice. Maybe Naksu returns as well, and then things get a little confusing for both Yul and Uk.

  50. I understand what you mean BUT how do you resurrect a body that has been cremated, this was the most important scene in episode 1 and Mudeok/Naksu. stood and watched her body being cremated. It was said that they did that so that her soul couldn’t re-enter her own body.

  52. Naksu’s body was burned so she’s not getting it back. MuDeok/Bu Yeon could get her body back if they get Naksu’s soul out, but I’m 50/50 on that.

  56. I think they’ll show Jung So Min because her story as Bu Yeon is not complete yet. Naksu will return as herself. But I really wanna see Jang UK with Mudeok (Jung So Min) even though he liked Naksu. Their match is beyond perfect. Hopefully the story will end in good terms.

  59. I give it a 10 stars, the actor playing Jung UK main character is absolutely brilliant, if Naksu shifts souls into the new leading lady season 2 will be just as brilliant, can’t wait, Cheers to the writers for coming up with this shoe, they deserve a medal.

  69. I agree with you whole-heartedly! The take is easily fascinating… the characters are adorable and each reach the heart in different ways. The scenery and architecture is fantastic and calls to me each new place or scene they are in. I never thought I’d enjoy a series this much… but I found it a week ago and have watched season 1 like 3 times already.

    It broke my heart to see the season finale. I was so excited to see that my adorable leaf female actor was going to marry her master… and her mother was so close to finding out the girl she strangled as a demonstration was actually her beloved daughter.

    Poor Jang Uk… not only abused his entire life by those who should have shown compassion… but had to lose the only one who ever tried to help him. Just heart-breaking.

  71. What did I think of the finale. That if a second season was not in the works then it was the worst Kdrama ending among many not so great final episodes I have endured over time. So I am much relieved that another season is on the horizon. As for final episodes, I do think kdrama writers and directors have improved their ability to create a satisfying finale. I often wonder if being disappointed with the way some Kdrama endings seem to drift off into nothing has to do with my Western sensibility that requires a clear denouement to wrap up the tangled threads of the story. I can generally ignore a fuzzy ending, but if Alchemy of Souls had ended with episode 20 that would have been beyond the pale.

  74. I loved, loved, loved the show. The chemistry between jan uk and mudeok was wonderful and i am disappointed she will be replaced. I hate it when that happens. It takes away from the show and characters in my opinion.. i am hoping she is brought back for Season 2 and surprise us all. These 2 main characters bring a lot of power to the screen as well as the others in the show. Please bring her back!

  101. No no no. Both Jung So Min & Go Yun Jung will be in it. Jung So Min will be Bu Yeon while Go Yun Jung will be Naksu. Episode 20 kind of mess up coz Naksu not supposed to loose control due to Bu Yeon. Bu Yeon’s ice stone and her own power has prevented all sort of issue for Naksu in the last 18 episodes. I just don’t see how she lost it after that dude brought her power back.

  103. 19 great episodes it is really because I don’t understand what happened in episode 20. Allowing Priestess Buyeon’s body canged and control by a dangling ???? didn’t tally with the storyline. There was even a scene where Master Lee acknowledged the power of the Priestess’s body..

  110. To me it felt like Mu-deok was a change from Naksu, the original. Even if Jung So Min was the lead actress of the first season, she wasn’t the original character. So I’m hoping she’ll come back as Jin Bu-yeon and the other actress can be Naksu.

    That would be interesting on how that’s going to transpire in season 2. I believe it’s going to be quite awkward for Uk to see the real her as her true appearance,
    Who happens to be the one Yul fell in love with!

    • Exactly what I have been saying. a person is composed of soul & body. when one is shifted to another it creates another persona. even if the soul is important but without the body the reality cannot be manifested. a Soul without a body is just a ghost. and a Body without a soul is just a dead meat. Just as the sick King had to return being sick, Naksu the Assassin will have to return back to her original self and pay for all her crimes.
      that’s why I was never in favor of Naksu & Jang Uk love storyline, coz it is bound to go the tragic path. the writers want to torture us all. Good that I was rooting for Jung So Min’s Mudeok, so I might escape the Season 2. Bye!

  116. Mudeok is the real daughter who was missing so I think she will come back without Naksu’s soul as a supporting actress who is truly loved by Uk. Buyeong is the real priestess with powers too so Mudeok will come back. As for Naksu, don’t know how will she reappear since she died already. Can’t wait for season 2 which is 3 months too long for me. Love, love this fantastic drama! One of the best! I’ve watched all old wonderful dramas. Can’t find anymore wonderful ones. Glad that this drama became one of those wonderful dramas that I loved watching. Never a dull moment & never a wasted time since it started.

    • How sure are you? Naksu body got burned to ashes. She’s a Soul shifter that stole Buyeon body. Naksu in her own body will be another person, not the cute kinder Mudeok, Naksu is a cold blooded assassin. her past will continue to haunt her in the living World, she might End up in the Death row to pay for all the crimes she committed as an assassin. there is No Happy Ending for the Assassin & Jang Uk in that Mage land, they will be both treated as criminals always on the run for their lives.

  141. The last 3 episodes the plot disappears, it was so well woven , stacked artfully n made with love too…
    I thought it cuz they were told to suddenly finished in 20 episodes, n could have done well in 26 tightly, or 30-someging ideally flushly with nice lovingly crafted plot. So last 5 episodes or so they were freaking out, n resigned n tied it up. I was sad to see plot come untied, n the story n drama drop the ball, but the blush romance vibes were exact, on point in usual, so while very sad n mourning a beloved fan story as a kdrama fan I’ll take it . N so last 3 episodes or so the dropped the ball, n the beautiful plot of the story n land was gone, n all the story n reveals i was looking forward too, those beautiful missing pieces of puzzle.
    But there’s a Part 2 etc …
    What even were those bells ? Isn’t that a “I don’t have a plot, just watch this dance end lol” cheat ?
    But there’s a Part 2 ???

    The beautiful story, the love bonds, the vivid curiosity of the tapestry n picture of the wall. The secret/missing pieces tease. The getting to know the sweethe characters.

    It was always a lil fast, especially his power upgrades weird. But that’s usual wuxia/xianxia pace in some Light novels too. But the plot, they totally abandoned the plot in last 3 episodes
    It was good, it was Great. So Why ?

    Tho is makes me sad. Cuz i fell in love(as Female MC) with Mu Deok/Bo Reum / Jang-So-Min over the last 12-20 episodes.
    But yeah Bo Reum would get her own story n life n destiny/fate which i love

    She was a kid n hadn’t even had her first kiss, probably, n a kid grew up as a def not very socially experienced adults, n Jang Uk n Mu Deok want to do more …

  150. Geez! Everyone’s pissed of female lead changing, they didn’t even considered the fact that the plot could make the changes make sense. Why not give the season 2 a chance to prove that it’s still worth watching? My theory on what could happen is that mudeok/buyeon’s soul was switched to naksu’s body. With Naksu’s body I have 2 theories how it could happen. First, the part where it was burn it wasn’t really showed or it was only a glimpse of it burning so there’s a possibility it’s a fake. Second, the ice stone could reanimate naksu’s body. Season 2 being lead by the original Naksu’s physical appearance would give as another pov. Hope everyone is still willing to see the series not just because of somin but because of the whole cast.

  151. 2nd season about naksu in the past. i believe at the end episod , jung so min will come to perform bu yeon as power women n as leader of Jin..bu yeon also love jang uk, the king star..mybe at the end of this story jin fmly allow naksu stay in the bu yeon body. bu yeon unlock Naksu’s power and both power wl be combine , with jang uk to fight jin mu all out.

    • Is it really worth saving and giving body to the Assassin. if she comes back, she’ll just End up in the Death row, for all the crimes she committed as Naksu the Assassin of Jin Mu. she only became likable character hiding as Mudeok person, but Naksu soul is already dark from the Start for all the assassinations she committed.

  153. Stop twisting this. The mudeok/buyeon character was just a vessel, flesh. If you really loved Naksu you would love her the same in any body she occupies. You prefering mudeok to Naksu is you saying you prefer the blind boring girl (buyeon) who will surely be loyal to her family. Naksu was who you watched in season 1 not buyeon. In fact buyeon and mudeok didn’t exist in season 1, they were dead or subdued. The goofy, funny and loyal girl in season 1 was NAKSU but just in the body of buyeon. Gee

    PS: there should be no confusion on who Jang UK is in love with if season 2 brings buyeon and Naksu’s original bodies back. “You truly fall in love with a soul not a body”

    • you should also not forget that Naksu is a Soul shifter assassin. she just stole Buyeon body. her original body was burned to ashes. she was able to love Jang Uk because of Buyeon body, without Buyeon she’s already dead. as Assassin, she’s Public enemy No.1 in their Mage land. there will be no peace for her but Death penalty if she comes back alive. there is no Happy ending for the Assassin & Jang Uk, they will be both treated as criminals!

  154. If you actually remember that only two forms (Naksu’s Soul and Buyeon’s body) exist and not three (because Mudeok did not exist, only a fake name) you would not cry or worry that you didn’t see mudeok in that short trailer.

    So remembering this why would you want so badly for Naksu’s Soul to be in Buyeon’s body to love her?

    All that love and loyalty was all Naksu, you don’t even know the personality of Buyeon.

    So if Naksu chooses to exist in the body of a child or a cow what should matter is her soul did not die

  165. The new lead has to happen. The Mu-Deok/Bu-Yeon body cannot contain the combined power of two super-strong personalities with both of them conscious and aware. The two identities would be constantly at war with each other, trapping both girls in a zombie state a or dead due to neural overload. Naksu has to inherit having the body memory of strength and control that Bu-Yeon never had. How they explain the recovery of Naksu’s body will be a writer’s sleight of hand.

    It will take some doing to make it believable.

    Season 2 should be 20 seasons long, not two. There is too much potential for intrigues for 10 Seasons.

    By-Yeon has to share Nakusu’s presence. I can’t see cutting her out completely. There must be footage of introspection material so Bu-Yeon can feed advice forward.

    Also there has to be something there to deflect the other Jin sisters revenge. At some point, Bu-Yeon’s mother has to realize fully that she nearly killed her favourite daughter. That can’t be left out and it needs to be done properly. How that can be done without Jung Min-Su escapes me.

  167. The change of female lead role is a happy thing for me. I’ve been a Naksu fan ever since I started watching this series and her comeback is awesome. I think season 2 will be different than we thought. Just looking forward to the new season!

This is by far one of the best shows on Netflix.. yes Mudek will be missed but it makes sense to bring back actual Naksu since se went into the death of souls and she needs to be reborn as her. I love the actress that played mudek as well but it makes sense for the sorry line and the shock value of the show. Bravo to the writers and actors of this show. Amazing job all around! There is few shows I’m willing to read subtitles for and this one is worth the exception!

  175. Jung So-min signed a contract with the TH Company june 2022, meaning after finishing season 1. This was her return to the big screen with the title “Project Wolf Hunting” released 22.09.11 / 22.10.07 .

    Changing the lead role, especially away from a major actress like her, is too high a risk under any normal circumstances. Chances are she simply wasn’t available anymore, so the producer was forced to come up with an alternative.

    I wouldn’t despair though, because desperation tends to lead to very creative novel solutions, so while it might not be the outcome we expected or wished for, it might still be worth the wait to see what they came up with.

    Besides, I feel that both “Go Yoon-jung” and “Naksu” deserved more screen time, and I believe it time to undo all the twists, knots and chaos as well.
    I don’t know if you kept count how many “people” Jung So-min was but … :
    1. Mu-deok is but a name, given to Jin Bu-Yeon by her adoptive grandmother, with the original owner long dead.
    2. She is two souls inhabiting one body, that of Naksu and Jin Bu-Yeon.
    3. Jin Bu-Yeon is three people herself: An unborn child, a soul brought into this world by the Ice stone, and an orphan with memory loss called Mu-deok.
    4. Naksu too is three people: The child who lost her entire family, the revenge hungry assassin that she was turned into and arguably died, and the soul clinging on as a guest in Jin Bu-Yeon’s body, experiencing actual life, and love, for the first time as Mu-deok.
    5. The hybrid like personality that developed with all the parts, and people, meshed into that one body. How did this NOT tear her apart inside out anyhow ?

    Also, don’t you want to find out how a return into / to a dead and burned body even is possible ?

  176. Same here, I don’t understand why people are not giving Goo Yoojung a chance… I just hope the drama turns out well and viewers will continue to watch this masterpiece
