The story of Ramayana goes past just the deep-seated lore, and fans have taken to comment on it thoroughly in the Adipurush review. Directed by Om Raut, this film stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan, Devdatta Nage, Trupti Toradmal, Sunny Singh, Sonal Chauhan, Vatsal Sheth, Shivangi Sharma and Prabha, alongside other cast members. Raut also joins the crew as a writer alongside Manoj Muntashir. It is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar, while Kartik Palani is the cinematographer and Omkar R. Pardeshi as the VFX editor.
This film was highly anticipated given its exorbitant crore budget and a cast list full of seasoned actors. Moreover, the presence of such a rich storyline and a big budget meant a treatment that would rival upcoming epics for generations. Following the story of Prince Raghava, who was exiled for 14 years from the kingdom, this movie details his triumph over the evil King Lankesh, who abducted Sita, Raghava’s wife and refused to let her go.

Retold multiple times over the long television, animation and live-action history of Indian entertainment, this film is yet another addition to the long list of projects following the Indian epic. With this pressure, the creators set out to make the film. However, presenting it to an audience didn’t go so well for them. Viewers have taken turns in letting their qualms with the visual experience of the film, absolutely obliterating the CGI and visual effects.
Memes from different genres and pop culture references have gone viral, explaining how the original Ramayana from the Doordarshan era gave more gravitas than this film could. Khan’s Raavan heads were slagged so hard on Twitter that some users edited their own videos with separate actors, infuriated with the quality, even with such a large budget. All those who expected the film to be good came out with such devastating expressions told only through humourous photographs.
However, the most unexpected response was seeing the audience talk about old movies that featured heavy CGI and VFX. The 2011 release, Ra.One was based on a gaming storyline and thus had a lot of scenes featuring the green screen magic. Seeing the most recent Adipurush, they have concluded that even this old film has better effects than the recent expensive release. Others have gone as far as to say that Indian audiences don’t deserve good VFX after understating the ones in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer.
Even Brahmastra, which was also wildly criticised, is redeemed by audiences after the release of the epic. To know what else viewers say about the film, check out the Adipurush Twitter reactions below.
