Nicki Minaj has a long history of feuds with celebrities and controversial decisions that drew backlash — from her clash with Mariah Carey to her stance against the COVID-19 vaccine. She always seemed to have one controversy or another brewing.
The biggest shocker came when she publicly backed President Donald Trump and emerged as a hardcore MAGA supporter. The sudden shift didn’t sit well with many fans, drawing vicious criticism.
Minaj’s political affiliation might explain her exclusion from this year’s Met Gala, showing how her MAGA stance is affecting her professional life, too. Adding fuel: A video surfaced of Doja Cat — who has no publicly documented feud with Minaj — telling her wire-chewing cat, “Are you, [Nicki?] Are you chewing on the wires? Don’t chew on the wires. Let go — let go, Nicki. Let go, Nicki.”
The clip went viral as viewers dissected Doja Cat’s words. It wasn’t clear why she’d name her cat after Minaj. One X user commented: “Y’all, I think it’s because the wires are pink, but even then she could’ve at least said that in the video because now it looks like she’s throwing shots at Nicki. Still weird.”
Another offered a blunt take: “I think it’s amazing how Nicki Minaj can be hated by all the rap and music industry; she should retire soon.” A third provided context: “This could be two things, positive or negative. The wires are pink, so she’s maybe referring to the cat as Nicki since it’s chewing on the pink wires, or she’s just throwing a light jab — since telling someone they are ‘chewing on wires’ could mean they’re stressed or anxious. However, I don’t think she’s being shady ’cause she was rapping her lyrics recently.”
Yet another user speculated: “A plug is a guy who provides coke/substances. A wire is connected to a plug, making it the product being provided! So basically doing coke. Nicki is dragged for it.” Several comments echoed the drug reference.
One commenter referenced a past video: “Doja was referring to a viral TikTok from September 2025 showing a Sphynx cat named ‘Nakee Minaj’ having a tantrum because it wanted to chew a phone cord. I don’t think the joke was ill-intended at all.”
No feud between Doja Cat and Minaj existed when the clip dropped, though their fanbases have clashed before, according to High Snobiety. The singers collaborated on the 2020 “Say So” remix.
With neither artist addressing the clip publicly and Doja Cat offering no explanation, all theories stem solely from speculation.
