His and Hers Review
In this mystery thriller series, an estranged couple jump right into getting to the bottom of a murder investigation in the midst of a sleepy Georgia town, all the while suspecting one another. The series’s themes include trust and betrayal, memory and trauma and the fact that everyone has something to hide. It highlights unexpected character revelations and interpersonal tension in every sequence as the dreadful image of a brutally murdered woman prepares us for what’s to come in the first scene.

However, as the episodes roll out, the series starts to lose steam, as we are shown a bit too hard that Jack might just be behind the murders… OR IS HE? It dilutes the impact of wondering who it could be, while you see him rushing around in jealousy when it comes to his ex. Elsewhere, Anna is reeling from her child’s death and losing her job, which is an interesting watch in the context of her relationship with the murdered women.
The series wavers between serious psychological drama and overly grim crime tropes and feels inconsistent more often than not. I also found the series to take forever to get to the point, which is a little amusing because it’s only 6 episodes long. In addition to being annoying, these characters make the most bizarre decisions, which are hard to believe in any way. I found myself confused and bored because it’s impossible to believe these people are doing these things, considering they are portrayed as intelligent individuals who are well-versed in the world.

Thankfully, the 6 episodes, despite their downfalls, are quite bingeable and are easy to watch. Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal are fantastic in the show, and Thompson, especially, brings a vulnerability to her character that is easy to follow and root for. His and Hers looks fantastic as well, so that’s another reason to keep watching the show.
In the end, I found the overall experience disappointing. The series is far too uneven to hold our attention, and despite the good performances, the characters lack depth. There is no clear voice, and the tonal inconsistencies make this a drag to watch, especially during the mid-season episodes. The plot progression feels slow, which, although not the worst of sins, I think they weren’t handled all that well. Thankfully, the last few minutes of episode 6 completely come out of left field, but is it enough to make up for the otherwise slow progression? I guess you can be the judge of that.
Final Thoughts

His and Hers drags a lot and, despite you seeing the potential in the storyline, it can’t really handle the drama and the crime elements well. In the end, the series is unsatisfying and boring, and the pacing doesn’t help it either.
