First Lady Episode 12 Recap

The episode opens with Hwa-jin speaking with Ji-yoo and Kang-myeong, which, of course, goes badly. However, Kang-myeong sincerely apologises for Hae-rin’s sins as well as for Ji-yoo’s behaviour. Anyway, Ji-yoo is kidnapped eventually Hong’s men after a group of bullies chase her into a secluded area.

Elsewhere, Seon-ho confronts Su-yeon about killing his parents, and it’s clear that he knows the truth about the fire, although Su-yeon never comes out and says it. Just then, Min-cheol arrives and also confronts her with the truth about the fire, and she has no other option but to accept the truth. However, in a rather odd twist, she tells him that she has simply been using him all these years to get revenge on her father, and she knew that when he became wheelchair-bound, he would be the easiest path to that goal.

Min-cheol is devastated at having created a life that is completely a lie, while Su-yeon is relieved when Hyun-sook finally wakes up. However, the relief is short-lived as she soon gets a call that Ji-yoo has been kidnapped and to bring the recorder that holds Hoon’s terrible truth. She arrives back at the H Chemical factory, where it all began, and after getting the recorder, Hoon orders for Su-yeon and Ji-yoo to be killed.

Thankfully, Min-cheol arrives just in time to save Ji-yoo and goes back to find Su-yeon trying to save Hwa-jin. Unfortunately, the building collapses as they are on their way out, trapping Min-cheol inside. Su-yeon has no other option but to get out with Hwa-jin, leaving her husband inside.

In the aftermath, Hoon and his goons are arrested, but Min-cheol is nowhere to be found. Days pass with no news of the president-elect, but Su-yeon keeps her promise to herself and confesses to the truth about the chemical factory fire and names everyone responsible for turning it into a media circus of lies. In the end, as she stands in front of the burnt-down factory with Hwa-jin, the firefighters find Min-cheol, and he might just be alive!

First Lady Episode 12 Review

First Lady Episode 12: Eugene
First Lady Episode 12: Eugene

The last episode of this Kdrama is… very underwhelming. It repeats everything that we have known till now and adds nothing new. The kidnapping plot didn’t need to exist, and we didn’t need this odd, slow fade that really doesn’t answer anything in any direction. I had hoped for the last episode to be a thrilling and extremely dramatic watch, but it’s the most cliched of all the 12 episodes, and that’s saying a lot. Did they run out of things to talk about? Because it sure looks like it! Plus, it didn’t answer a lot of questions that it brought up in this episode, which is something I am very confused about.

Overall, this was not a satisfying ending for me because I still have so many questions pertaining to the logic of the series that it spoils the experience for me.
