One Punch Man Season 3 Episode 2 Recap

The episode kicks off with tension surrounding the ongoing conflict with the Monster Association. Fearful of becoming targets, many humans have started siding with monsters, even suggesting extreme measures like human sacrifices to protect themselves. In the midst of this chaos, Garo stands out as seemingly the only rational figure.

He recognises how people can become consumed by worry when cornered, which makes it difficult for him to connect with humanity at this point. Later, we see Garo heading to a diner for a meal. In a humorous twist, Saitama happens to be there too, and after finishing his food, he realises he forgot his wallet. The situation escalates comically when Fubuki joins him, and Saitama ends up “dining and dashing,” leaving Fubuki to cover the bill.

The real conflict emerges when two villains approach Garo, trying to assess his intentions. They catch him protecting a child and scold him for showing mercy, insisting that he must kill the child to prove himself worthy of being a monster. This puts Garo in a difficult position, as he must demonstrate the evil the monsters expect, but killing the child would mean abandoning the humanity he’s consistently held onto from the start.

This episode begins with Zombieman going to Dr Genus to ask for answers as to why he closed his lab. There, Genus tells that he witnessed a superior power that far exceeded any artificial evolution, referring to Saitama. While he’s explaining about Saitama’s powers, we see Garo fighting with the two monsters. Genus reveals that every organism is born with a limiter that limits its powers because more than that will destroy the body. If not, they can also turn into a monster, losing all of their humanity. This is why everybody is born with a stopper that restricts their powers to a certain level. However, Saitama was different because he pushed himself beyond his boundaries.

At the battle, Garo almost wins the fight, but that is when an unexpected villain comes and changes the course. They badly beat him to the point of nearly killing him, and took the child whom Garo was trying to save so much. Back at Saitama’s room, the atmosphere is a lot more lighthearted as they all plan and discuss whether Saitama managed to beat Garo or not.  Then Saitama comes back to his room, and more funny moments take place as Dr Kuseno also arrives.

Saitama is not thrilled to see the old man, but when he brings out meat, Saitama quickly becomes comically more impressed. Back at the Monster Association, Gyoro Gyoro gets told how Garo was killed, and he seems not to care about it. He also instructs the child to be killed as soon as possible. Gyoro Gyoro also declares that they must prepare for battle against the heroes because they are soon going to find out the Monster Association’s hideout.

Today’s episode was okay, as it had some good fight scenes, but again, I thought that at least the action set pieces would be better. But that is not really the case. All in all, this will turn out to be an average season, and we will have to accept that as we do not have any other choice.
