My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Episode 3 Recap

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Episode 4 Review
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Episode 4 Review: Still

This episode kicks off on a light-hearted note as we find Mr. Knuckle settling comfortably into Koichi’s home, without even needing a key, having climbed in through the window instead. Pop Step also treats Koichi’s place like her own, dropping by uninvited along with Mr. Knuckle. At this point, Koichi has realized that trying to stop them is pointless, so he simply lets them be.

The episode also reveals that Pop Step is actually an ordinary high school student in her everyday life. She juggles the life of a typical teenager with her secret identity as a street-performing pop idol. During one of her outdoor concerts, a supposed fan approaches her, but things quickly spiral out of control. His behaviour crosses the line, and to make matters worse, he’s using a drug that enhances villainous powers.

Fortunately, Koichi and Mr. Knuckle arrive just in time to rescue her. Afterwards, Pop Step and Koichi team up to investigate the mysterious drug. Along the way, they encounter an enthusiastic fan who asks Pop Step for a selfie. However, the cheerful demeanour is a front, the fan later reveals herself to be a villain known as Queen Bee. Using her quirk, she spreads the drug by infecting people through bee stings, turning them into villains.

Today’s episode started off strong with the vigilante team getting rid of small villains all on their own. However, Koichi quickly realises that Mr. Knuckle has been pretty down after the mention of someone controlling honey bees. This means that Hachisuka must have a connection with Mr. Knuckle, and only later will we see what is it. On the other hand, Hachisuka also goes around injecting person after person with the quirk-enhancing drug.

She was seen talking with someone on the phone, and I’m pretty sure that it is none other than All For One who is helping her out. Apparently, this mysterious man wants all the data he can get through Hachisuka. He is searching people with genuine conviction towards the enhancement of their powers as this drug works better when it gets injected into someone with a strong will. But my favourite moment of the episode is when Ingenium comes up unexpectedly and in a very cool manner.

The nostalgia hit that I got from it was immense, and I really appreciated the way he was showcased as one of the fastest heroes alive. Later, Ingenium also runs into Koichi, and they actually have a very hearty conversation, where Ingenium tries to understand how Koichi’s quirk works. Koichi has been having issues stopping while using his quirk all his life, but Ingenium gives him a quick solution to that problem.

But their meeting does not end there, as when Ingenium is trying to capture another villain, Koichi unexpectedly comes with his vigilante team to save the day. The interaction between Koichi and Ingenium is one of my absolute favourite things from this episode. I think it is great that we see someone like Ingenium make a comeback in this world.

Again I absolutely love this episode and think it is a great addition to My Hero Academia world. The characters of this anime are definitely ones that I would love to see again and again. Also, I think it’s great that I’m getting a glimpse at old characters now that the main manga has ended.
