Tebusan Dosa Review
The plot follows a distressed mother whose daughter goes missing after an accident near the river. While she believes her daughter is alive, the police stop the rescue after finding no clue about the missing girl. Meanwhile, the mother is haunted by ghosts of those close to her, leading her to a mystery that could change it all for her.
Being a horror film, the movie does manage to bring an eerie feeling to the audience somewhere throughout its runtime. However, this doesn’t come right from the start but after quite some time in the film. It starts off as something normal and almost uninteresting and remains this way all the way until the tragedy strikes which finally starts off the real thing.
Coming to the fearing elements, I have to say, the film has done it well and you can feel your heart thumping when you see a vision starting to appear around the woman. The story does develop quite well from there on and you begin to see the many sides of people, as some misuse the vulnerability of those in distress while others are the devil with a smiling face.

While the mystery doesn’t take long to reveal and we can easily find out who the real villain is, the film continues to keep you interested and watch it till the end. In the end, it is the plot and the performance of the actors that keep you hooked until the end of the film.
Meanwhile, what really caught my attention were the themes of the film and the hidden dangers in the world, which are ready to pounce on people’s vulnerabilities at any time. Another is a mother’s resilience to do anything possible for their child irrespective of the unknown that keeps creeping on their fears.
I have loved the way these themes come across in the film and while it may take some time to understand these hidden elements because of the captivating plot, it is easily understood once you have finished the film. Altogether, the film is more than just a horror film as it brings deeper lessons about the world and the trust we hold in people. It is interesting in its own way though it doesn’t offer the best horror, but something that is just interesting enough for horror lovers.

Summing Up
Tebusan Dosa aka Redemption of Sin is an intriguing Indonesian horror film that manages to captivate the audience who make it through the uninteresting start. While the film holds some good and eerie horror elements, it works better as a film trying to give a life lesson. Altogether, this film is an interesting watch that is almost good for horror lovers but can be watched by those who are easily scared.
