Unmasked Episode 12 Recap
Unmasked finale starts with So-ryong sending the proof up to the surface of the water but passing out after her leg gets caught. As the others are left shocked and horrified at something happening to her, So-ryong comes up to the surface, much to everyone’s relief and with a ton of proof. The team presents them to Dae-yong, who is left speechless at the things that he is hearing. At the Hanju property, So-ryong calls the police who rush in and find body after body in the lake, leaving everyone heartbroken at the insanity of the situation unfolding in front of them.
The police go to arrest Jin-man, but he comes up with a plan to stall them for the time being. Jin-man, however, isn’t as cool-headed as he makes it out to be. He screams at Hyeong-tae for not getting rid of So-ryong, but he gives him a plan to blame it all on Tae-su, his father. Hyeong-tae goes as far as to ask the Chief of Police to put the matter under wraps, leaving the detective shocked as well. However, the DNA report comes back positive for Seung-wook. The other bones are of young girls aged between 13 and 16.

The detective hands over all the reports to So-ryong, who soon gets news that the story about the skeletal remains has been leaked to the press already. She calls and asks Jin-woo about his source and is shocked to learn that Hyeong-tae was the one who gave up the details, painting Tae-su as the perpetrator. At Jin-man’s home, he finds out that one of the girls is still at home and she makes a run for it after incapacitating him. She lands at Kim Gye-nam’s station, who immediately lets Hyeong-tae know about the situation. High on drugs, Jin-man eventually loses his mind on Hyeong-tae.
The next day, the police arrest Jin-man and Han Do mentions that Hyeong-tae must have finally cut him loose. So-ryong gets a call from Hyeong-tae who hands over Hae-won’s interview from 20 years ago and instructs her to mention on the show that he was forced to take whatever decision that he had taken. Hyeong-tae agrees to fall on the sword and take the blame, confessing that he was scared all those years ago after the lead detective turned up dead.

Of course, the plan doesn’t go over well for Trigger, and Han Do especially is left annoyed at the prospect of letting Hyeong-tae whitewash his name. A fight breaks out among the team members and eventually, So-ryong asks Han Do to sit this one out if he can’t see the great good that his decision brings and he takes up that choice. Eventually, though, he does come around and they interview Hyeong-tae after many sleepless nights on the episode. It’s an interesting change of pace for everyone as Trigger airs the unaired tape from 20 years ago as well as Hyeong-tae’s apology.
However, after basking in the glory of his confession going great, he finds whispers of his involvement with the Hanju family as well as his identity as Dr Trigger released to the public. It turns out that Hui-won is the spy that Trigger needed to destroy Hyeong-tae and that’s exactly what happens in the end. It turns out that So-ryong and Han Do had plotted this in order to take down two birds with one stone.

Later, we see the team paying respects at Dae-yong’s father’s funeral service where they also air the latest Trigger episode exposing Jang Hak-ui. So-ryong and Han Do also hash out their old issues and he propositions a more romantic future for them. However, that takes a back seat when Detective Yu comes back with a shocking piece of evidence from Jin-man’s house that indicates that the autopsy never happened and that Cho Hae-won is still alive.
Unmasked Episode 12 Review

What a fantastic end for this Kdrama. The Unmasked finale is nothing short of amazing — it’s emotional, thrilling and delivers justice in all the right ways, tying up all the threads that the series started out with. Also, how dare it end on a cliffhanger?! But then again, I wouldn’t expect anything less from the series. The thrilling and comedy aspects gel extremely well together and it holds on to its disturbing mysteries throughout the runtime.
Fantastic performances by Kim Hye-soo and Jung Sung-il, particularly the latter. Choi Dae-hoon and Choo Ja-hyun as the psychopathic siblings made this series absolutely arresting and scary. Although everyone was fantastic, I think the antagonists take the cake in this one.
All in all, the series is an absolute hit in my book for everyone who likes a good disturbing mystery thriller.
