Jinwoo finally acknowledges that he can no longer hide his true abilities while continuing as an E-rank hunter. Since lower-ranked hunters are restricted from entering high-level dungeons, advancing beyond the demon castle dungeon means facing stronger opponents and rising through the ranks at a much faster pace.

The long-anticipated moment arrives as Jinwoo undergoes the ranking reassessment, and chaos ensues. The process involves touching a specialized device that evaluates a hunter’s power, but in Jinwoo’s case, the machine malfunctions entirely, his abilities are too overwhelming for it to handle. This instantly confirms him as the country’s 10th S-rank hunter, leaving those present in utter disbelief as murmurs spread throughout the room.

Among the onlookers is Jongin, an esteemed S-rank hunter, who attempts to approach Jinwoo. However, to everyone’s surprise, Jinwoo bluntly dismisses him, leaving Jongin visibly stunned, perhaps for the first time in his life, he experiences outright rejection. But this is only the beginning. Now that Jinwoo’s newfound status is out in the open, his life is bound to change drastically.

Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 5 Review and Recap

Today’s episode starts with some pretty good foreshadowing, where we see Haein and Jinwoo coming face to face for the first time. Haein is immediately interested in Jinwoo for a bizarre reason; she cannot smell the usual bad smell she gets from other hunters on him. She even claims that his scent is rather pleasant. Jinwoo believes as he is a player now, with the added immunity that comes with the status of being the system favourite, things are different with him.

But this interaction was not the highlight as Jinwoo finds himself yet again in a bad dungeon. Here, we see Jinwoo working as a baggage carrier under the second team of Haein’s guild. This was supposed to be a simple mission, as always, and we shouldn’t have worried about the safety of the hunters as there were some pretty strong hunters in this group. However, the dungeon is not a simple one, and it is only later that we find how dangerous the creatures of these dungeons are.

The moment they enter this dungeon, they’re met with high orcs whose power is beyond the group’s imagination. Jinwoo would soon become a certified S-ranked hunter who did not want to be in the limelight, so he decided to help the group from the shadows. But that was not enough as the situation just worsened towards the end. The way things are unfolding, I just know that the next episode will be absolutely a feast for the eyes animation-wise.

We really should appreciate the high-quality animation that we get from A-1 Pictures, as it is the cornerstone of this anime. At its core, the story is pretty ordinary, and if you think about it, you will also feel the situations are pretty repetitive, but what carries the whole show is its hype moments and gorgeous visuals.

Verdict 

It seems Jinwoo cannot catch a break when it comes to landing himself in shitty places and being stuck until he breaks free from these spots somehow. It is as if he is destined to be great. Well, his journey to greatness is definitely something that is very entertaining to see.
