The 100 Girlfriends Season 2 Episode 1 Recap

Rentaro’s life continues to be a whirlwind as he effortlessly finds his soulmates one after another. In this episode, his six girlfriends realize their relationship has reached a point where it risks becoming monotonous. To keep things exciting, they hatch a plan to shake things up.

Enter Kusuri, Rentaro’s 5th girlfriend, who concocts a potion that causes the girlfriends to swap souls with each other. Predictably, chaos follows as they realize there’s no immediate way to reverse the effects. The only potential solution? A magical “kiss” to undo the spell. This actually works!

But the episode doesn’t stop there. We are also introduced to Rentaro’s 7th soulmate and the first new addition of Season 2. We see Kurumi, a middle schooler with an insatiable appetite and a fiery attitude. The two cross paths in the high school cafeteria and sparks fly almost instantly.

Kurumi might have agreed to become Rentaro’s girlfriend, but she has not agreed to get along with his other lovers yet. Thus, Rentaro makes sure that he also enters the eating competition that Kurumi is interested in with his girlfriends. He thinks it will be a nice way for Kurumi to finally let loose and get along with others than just himself. Rentaro understands that she is not a bad girl at heart but just someone who can not express her feelings, and hence, this is the plan he comes up with. However, what he did not think was how unsupportive Kurumi would be with this idea.

Right off the bat, this anime is absolutely hilarious. When the emcee of the competition states the rules, we see very raunchy photos of her displaying for no reason. And before you even understand what the hell is happening, Karane calls her out for blatant fan servicing, creating an absolutely hilarious situation. But this is just one of the instances, as there are many more funny moments that will leave you wheezing.

All the girls have distinct personalities, and they are so unique in their approach that not one scene is bland with them. The whole premise of them participating in an eating competition with some competitors should be a normal scene, but even the side characters are so memorable that you are entertained by their antics anyway.

Rentaro and his girlfriends are also weirdly supportive of each other, even in a setup where all the girls are vying for one single man’s attention. And props to Rentaro for managing to provide love to all his girlfriends as equally as possible. But I must say that amidst all the absurdness and sexual innuendos, the anime showcases a pretty wholesome relationship where everyone is okay with and accepting of each other.

Today’s episode was again very funny and entertaining to boot. This show is pretty unpredictable, and much of the comic relief comes from that aspect. I like the fact that you never know who might say and do what. Again, if you want a very absurd yet funny anime, you can definitely watch this, and yes, there is a One Piece reference here as well!
