Paatal Lok Season 2 Review
Prime Video’s hit series Paatal Lok comes back with another season full of intriguing twists and turns and characters and situations that are nothing short of fascinating. The series brings forth a different case to solve this season but proceeds with the same police officers that we had come to love and hate in the first season. Hathi Ram continues to be a rather interesting and “good” character in the corruption and political games that exist around him. When the case takes him to Nagaland, Hathi Ram remains steadfast and all about the facts at hand, going as far as to take a young orphaned child home instead of leaving him alone at the police station.
I think where the series differs from others of the genre is how even in the worst that humankind has to offer, there are good, innocent and pure moments of understanding and love that remind us that it’s the good that is making the world run. There might be horrible situations unfolding, but these small moments of bliss offer an oasis of sorts, giving us a moment of respite that is so important for a show such as this one. It’s quite relatable and realistic and the fantastic performances just add to these moments further.

The emotional ups and downs make for such a thrilling watch, along with the twists and turns that the series brings forth. It’s dark, it’s gritty and it’s totally believable. The season opens itself up so beautifully that the deeper we get into the mystery, the juicier it gets. It’s interesting how intricate the different story points are as well, as one little thing leads to another. Thus, when the secrets started to come out one by one, I found myself stumped at how deep it had gone without my knowledge!
The best about Paatal Lok, personally, is how invested I got with every small character. None of them are just pawns to push the narrative forward, everyone gets something that reminds us that they are human beings with their own struggles. The series showcases these characters in different lights throughout the runtime, making us feel for them in different ways.

Just like last season, the second season continues to draw parallels between heaven and hell and discusses how people can be both good and bad. Although some are completely terrible, the series does a fantastic job of drawing a vivid picture of how dimensional a person can be, making us question whether to hate someone or not. It makes us question morality and whether there is an absolute truth in the world. The answer can be confusing and confounding, but never for a minute does a series let us go. It’s absolutely arresting from start to finish.
On top of the fantastic story, the series boasts an equally admirable cast whose performances make this series a memorable and gripping watch. Jaideep Ahlawat and Ishwak Singh return to reprise their roles and both are absolutely fantastic. Ahlawat is always a great bet when it comes to anything he does and this time around he leaves a mark once again. The range of emotions he showcases as Hathi Ram is beyond compare. Singh is also phenomenal and leaves you rooting for the good cop that he is. Other than them, the other artists, including, surprisingly, the supporting cast, sell their roles 100%. Special mention to Shome’s Meghna Barua – she is not only perfectly cast but also a character who is more than Chaudhury’s lackey.
Final Thoughts

Paatal Lok Season 2 is emotional, moving and thoroughly memorable. I will not give away any spoilers so that viewers can enjoy the journey that this season is, but all in all, the twists and turns are fantastic and by the end of it, you can’t help but find yourself thoroughly satisfied with the outcome. This one’s definitely a must-watch.
