On November 27th, South Korean Boyband SEVENTEEN Shohikigen (消費期限) is their fourth Japanese single album released right before the band’s tour performance in Japan. The song is a beautiful ballad which brings a slow yet soothing beat with lyrics that strike the listener with the depth it holds. The song has sentimental melodies that come with a rousing feeling which further enhances the impact it holds on the listener.
Shohikigen which means Expiration Date is part of the band’s fourth Japanese single album which consists of the Japanese versions of two other songs- Circles and Maestro. The title track which is of the same name as the album, is a song filled with deep meaning that hope for a love that lasts forever.
With this, let’s begin with the music video review!
SEVENTEEN Shohikigen MV Review
The song visually takes us to another world lost in outer space where beautiful sceneries of this planet are found behind closed doors. The melodies are soft and soothing while the vocals take you through an experience like no other. As the countdown for the end of the world begins right at the beginning, we see the members spend some happy days together, hoping for their love to hold no expiration date.
Your attention is caught right from the beginning and when the music begins, you know you are in for a song that is sure to touch your heart. The vocals of the members are soft and soothing in ways that will make you feel nostalgia, sadness, forgotten happiness, and a wish that you hold to your heart. With the violins opening the song most perfectly, the song moves onto the vocals that touch your heart.

But the vocals aren’t the only beautiful part of this music video as you soon see scenes that make you happy. Carats are really having the time of their lives with this music video as nostalgia hits each time they spot an Easter egg. Meanwhile, the way the plot in the scenes picks up, makes you happy and quickly falls into chaos takes you on a rollercoaster ride that has you smiling with tears in your eyes. As the members spend their final moments before an impending doom with each other while having fun, we are filled with a sense of longing for the bond they hold.
Moving on to the beautiful cinematography of the video which is perfect from every angle. The visuals are intriguing as the scenes flow past the screen with a smoothness that takes your emotions through a ride which is smooth without any bumps. The way this music video proceeds is really beautiful as you are able to connect with every emotion presented on screen without missing out on anything. I have especially loved this part as I find myself smiling at the scenes of them coming together and having fun and crying to the final moments of the song.

This takes us to the lyrics of the song which are so deep and meaningful that I cannot stop myself from feeling it deep within me. The lyrics hold a hope that love never has an expiration date. How easily they take the expiration date part from a milk carton to love itself has me looking at this song more closely than ever. The shift from a daily life object which is taken to relate to something deeper is smooth and wonderful, making the listener amazed by the way these lyrics are written.
Finally, the expressions of the members in every scene throughout the video have left me in awe. They really put all their effort into this music video and you can feel the emotions conveyed in the song just by looking at their expressions. The band has really blessed us with a beautiful idol ballad and we love this song.
