Blue Box Episode 5 Review: Off To The First Date

It’s been a month since Chinatsu moved in with Taiki, and he’s adjusted to the new living arrangement surprisingly well. Though her radiant presence sometimes catches him off guard, he’s managed to keep his cool. Just when Taiki thinks he’s handling everything without anyone finding out about their living situation, he slips up in a big way—accidentally bringing Chinatsu’s gym uniform to school instead of his own.

This mix-up leads to a hilarious series of events, as Taiki scrambles to prevent anyone from discovering the truth. Desperate to swap the uniforms, he encounters one obstacle after another. When his friend Hina almost grabs the uniform, Taiki blurts out an outrageous lie, claiming he hasn’t washed it since last summer, which successfully grosses her out and allows him to slip away unnoticed.

Things heat up when Taiki faces his first inter-school match in high school, and a new love rival enters the scene. Kishi, a student from Shimotomi High and a former junior of Haryu’s, has also set his sights on Chinatsu and has repeatedly asked Haryu for her number. To push Taiki to give it his all, Haryu sets up a wager that Taiki can’t ignore, especially since it involves his admired Senpai.

Blue Box Episode 5 Review And Recap

This episode marks a turning point not only for Taiki but also in the storyline of the series in general. It opens with Taiki’s glorious victory, as he barely manages to keep Kishi from getting Chinatsu’s number. Kishi obviously promises to come back stronger than ever for another rematch, but at least for now, he will not be coming in between Taiki and Chinatsu.  However, what Taiki did not expect was the sudden and random invitation to an aquarium date from Chinatsu right after the match.

This obviously shakes him to the core, and he is beyond confused by this turn of events. How was he able to secure a date with his beloved without even knowing anything? He truly needs to cherish his very supportive friend, Kyo, who acted as the best wingman ever. Hina also becomes excited for him and teases him about his first date. However, when she goes on to meet her own friends, they point out how she looks unnaturally mad about something. This obviously solidifies the suspicion that we had about her feelings towards Taiki.

She is definitely in love with him, but because he has been her friend all their lives, she never thought about it seriously. Now that Taiki is actively pursuing someone, she is getting more and more aware of her attraction. This remains to be seen whether she will be a supporting friend who will let go of her own feelings or will act as a barrier and try to separate Taiki and Chinatsu.

Today’s highlight will have to be the date that Taiki takes careful consideration to prepare for. This moment was definitely magical for our hero, who stays conscious about Chinatsu’s presence throughout their outing. We can see just how much he loves her and craves her attention. Even though he might not realise it, I am pretty sure Chinatsu, as well, has considerable attraction towards him.

Verdict

We get another interesting episode where one couple is walking towards some sort of romantic development, and others around them are becoming influenced. The turmoil of the heart is sure to arrive in full swing as we see more people getting involved with these two.
