No Gain No Love Episode 2 Recap

The episode begins with a flashback to a snowy day in the past, where Kim Ji-uk is sitting with his grandmother outside a nursing home. They talk about life, and she advises him to marry a decent girl who doesn’t smoke and not to have a child out of wedlock. Cut to the present, where the episode picks up from the last scene.

Son Hae-yeong, who is drunk, asks Ji-uk to marry her. Realizing she’s intoxicated, Ji-uk recalls that Hae-yeong is exactly the kind of person his grandmother warned him about. It’s revealed that Ji-uk has known her for six years, as he has been working with her and has seen her bossy nature with her ex-boyfriends, which has led him to dislike her.

At work, Hae-yeong receives a message from Kwon I-rin, who is both her ex-boyfriend’s wife and the best friend of her company’s president’s daughter. When Hae-yeong meets I-rin in her office, she finds out that Ahn Ue-jae, her ex, has also been called. Initially, Hae-yeong fears that I-rin knows about their past affair. However, I-rin reveals that the proposals for a new project submitted by Hae-yeong and Ue-jae are exactly the same. A flashback shows that when Hae-yeong and Ue-jae were dating, she had shared her idea with him. I-rin asks them to collaborate, as both proposals can’t be accepted as they are.

Later, Ue-jae privately asks Hae-yeong to withdraw, arguing that the company would never choose a single woman for the role. Hae-yeong accuses him of plagiarizing her idea and refuses to back out, threatening to expose him. Ue-jae then blackmails her, claiming that if she doesn’t withdraw, he’ll tell everyone that they dated and that she’s trying to steal his idea out of spite. Since I-rin is his wife, he believes she’ll take his side. Angry, Hae-yeong tells him that she’s getting married in a month, hinting that she won’t back out and that her marriage will secure her chances of getting the job.

Determined, Hae-yeong returns to the convenience store and again asks Ji-uk to be her fake groom. She explains that it would be a fake marriage, but Ji-uk refuses. Undeterred, Hae-yeong goes home and starts preparing for the wedding without a groom. When her friends and roommate find out, they warn her that a fake marriage is a fraud, but Hae-yeong is determined to go through with it.

As she searches for a groom, we see Ji-uk encountering a man he dislikes at his place. When Ji-uk learns that Hae-yeong has asked this man to take on the part-time job of being her fake husband, he smashes the man’s phone before he can meet her. Ji-uk then waits for Hae-yeong in the rain outside the store. When she arrives, he agrees to the fake wedding, with the condition that there should be no emotional attachment. In return, Hae-yeong must take care of his cat for a week.

The two go shopping for wedding outfits, and their playful banter continues. However, Hae-yeong also shows concern for Ji-uk, who is younger than her, not wanting to hurt him. While Ji-uk is in the fitting room trying on a suit, Ahn Ue-jae and Kwon I-rin arrive at the same shop and insist on seeing the groom. When Ji-uk steps out, he looks incredibly handsome and charming, and the episode ends on this note.

No Gain No Love Episode 2 Review

tvN has delivered some outstanding dramas this year, raising our expectations sky-high. While No Gain No Love hasn’t exactly blown us away yet, it’s been satisfying so far, if not groundbreaking. Episode 2 keeps the humour on point, with Shin Min-ah and Kim Young-dae’s interactions providing plenty of fun, whether they’re sparring with each other or with others. This episode takes us deeper into the complex dynamics between the main characters, adding layers to their personalities and their tangled relationships. The episode skilfully balances humour and tension, making for an engaging watch.

However, the side characters haven’t been very engaging yet and need more development to keep the audience invested. The trio of friends does stand out, though, showing a deep bond rooted in shared experiences from Hae-yeong’s mother’s shelter home. Their friendship adds an interesting layer to the story.

As for the chemistry between the leads, it’s still in the early stages. While it hasn’t fully blossomed yet, there’s hope that it will as the series progresses, with many episodes still left to explore their relationship. Their playful banter during the wedding preparations provided some of the episode’s lighter moments. However, there’s also a subtle shift in their relationship as Hae-yeong begins to show concern for Ji-uk. This adds a layer of tenderness to their interactions, hinting that their relationship might evolve beyond mere convenience.
