Urusei Yatsura Season 2 Episode 6 Overview

Urusei Yatsura returns to breathe new life into the “boy meets extraordinary girl” genre. This anime masterpiece combines elements of comedy, romance, and sci-fi, enriched with a generous dose of humorous gags.

Once again, the series boasts a talented trio of directors at its helm. Among them is Takahashi Hideya, renowned for his contributions to Sword Art Online, Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru, To LOVE-Ru, and more. The other directors include Kamei Takahiro, known for his work on Enen no Shouboutai, Captain Tsubasa (2018), and others, as well as Kimura Yasuhiro, who lent his expertise to Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic.

Episode 6 of Urusei Yatsura 2nd Season can also be called the 6th episode of うる星やつら第2期.

I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Urusei Yatsura Season 2 Episode 6 Review and Recap – Kotatsu Lover

Urusei Yatsura Season 2 Episode 6 Review Lum Becomes A Cow

Today’s episode gave me mixed feelings, as the first half was not like the second half at all. The first half of this episode starts with the very large cat of the Moroboshi family, who is apparently a big fan of kotatsu tables. Not just that, he even managed to get his hands on a vintage piece that he got at a very reasonable rate from an antique shop. But what becomes the problem is that this kotatsu is very special, as it does not let anyone put a blanket on top of it. Hence, this part only deals with the cat trying his best to put a blanket over the enchanted table.

This segment did not have much to offer plot-wise, as it was nothing but the cat chasing the table. Plus, it showed some occasionally random moments that try to be funny but fail. Ataru and Lum also take a backseat here, and they serve as supporting characters. Even the conclusion of this story felt like it was going nowhere, and it seemed like a filler episode.

The second segment, even though was pretty random in itself, still had much more to offer. It started off as funny because we saw Lum and Ataru going to a pet shop and discovering a cow known for its bad reputation. Apparently, it bit its previous owner and even bites Lum and Ataru. But things start to go very bad for Lum when she grows horns, just like a cow.

So, is she turning into a cow? Well, I can’t reveal the answer, but one thing is clear Ataru definitely loves her more than anything. When he discovers about her bad condition, he is anything but relieved that she will leave him. No, he becomes desperate to keep Lum by his side at any cost.

This part really showcased how much Ataru has accepted Lum in his life, even though he tries his best to deny his feelings multiple times. He rarely breaks his character, but we see that he truly cares for her when he does show his true self. And the most wholesome part is even Lum is aware of it.

Verdict

This episode was decent; while the first part was not that enjoyable, the second part makes up for it. They also have an extra segment that comes after the ending. Here, we see how difficult it is to be the teacher of someone as rich and powerful as Mendo. This part was also moderately entertaining.
