The story was turned into a webtoon on March 4, 2018, illustrated by Jang Sung-rak. The first season of the webtoon ended on March 19, 2020, and the second season ran from August 1, 2020, to December 2021. D&C Media has published seven volumes of collected chapters as of February 2023.

An anime TV series produced by A-1 Pictures is premiering soon in January 2024. Additionally, there’s a Korean drama adaptation in the works, and a spinoff webtoon called Solo Leveling: Ragnarok is scheduled to come out in 2024.

I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Solo Leveling Episode 5 Review and Recap: Transformed Jinwoo

Solo Leveling Episode 5 Review A Too Good To Be True Deal

Jinwoo has finally gotten over his weak self, and that is clearly visible to others. The episode opens with nurses at the hospital literally gushing over his transformation and his muscles. They wonder how a patient could have gotten in such good shape after exercising only for a few days. One nurse even takes Jinwoo’s number while he remains completely oblivious to the charm he has now.

But it’s not just the nurses who are wondering about his sudden change. Jinwoo’s sister Jinah, also questions him about how he manages to get a few inches of height even after he is well past the age to grow taller. Through these interactions, we also realize how good Jinwoo’s connection is with his sister.

Thankfully, Jinwoo is also aware of the miracle that is happening to him and is worried about what might happen if he lets others know about it. He is not in a secure position in his life right now, and hence, he can not run his mouth to everyone. Plus, the fact that he can gradually level up without any limits is also concerning, and hence, before understanding how his powers work, he decides to remain in the E rank and not draw much attention.

But well, one thing that he cannot escape is monetary issues, and this part is practical because it shows how he still can not escape reality even when he is special now. So, to get some quick bucks, he accepts a C-rank mission, where he will only have to carry the luggage.

The deal is simple, he will not have to fight in the front lines, and he’s there just to meet the quota, as a C-rank dungeon needs a minimum of eight people. And as he will not fight, he will also not get any share in the spoils, but in place of that, he will be paid a pretty hefty amount from the Guild.

The deal is simple enough and too good to be true, but Jinwoo is in a pretty tough position, and he is also strong enough to not care about any difficulties anymore. So he agrees to everything without much care. Here, he also meets a rookie hunter, Jinho, who will become a very important character in the future.

Verdict

This was another great episode that first tells us about how Jinwoo has become stronger than ever. We also see how he has become more relaxed, and even his personality has become more easy-going, yet serious. He is not scared of everything anymore and carries himself with confidence.

This might be because now, he doesn’t have to worry about his well-being as he knows he is more powerful than the average hunter.

Netflix’s The Witness avoids the usual true-crime clichés, delivering a compassionate and emotionally powerful look at the family left behind after the Rachel Nickell murder. Netflix’s Maa Behen succeeds when exploring its social themes and commentary on gender and society. However, the comedy rarely lands, and the film’s excessive length and meandering narrative dilute its impact, making for an uneven viewing experience.
