Instead, Lee In implores his brother to believe him, leading to a shocking turn when the King suggests Lee In kill himself to prove his loyalty. Before Lee In can act, the King succumbs to poisoning from herbal medicine. With his dying breath, the King instructs Lee In to find the poisoner and make the Prince Royal the new king.

The minister of War, Jong-bae, returns with vengeance upon hearing of the King’s death. Lee In, quick on his feet, manipulates the narrative, claiming the King wanted him to ascend the throne. A court lady and the physician are coerced into supporting this false account. Lee In, declaring he has no desire to be king, challenges the ministers to voice their opposition. Jong-bae emerges as the sole dissenter.

Jong-bae, determined to implicate Lee In, employs Hyun-bo to extract a confession from Baduk player Mong-woo/Hee-soo, claiming she was the spy sent by Lee In. Myung-ha intervenes, demanding to conduct the interrogation. During the proceedings, Jong-bae forges a confession, but Lee In counters with Hyun-bo as a witness, leading to Jong-bae’s execution in front of his son Myung-ha.

Lee In, having bought Hyun-bo’s loyalty, orders severe punishment for the captives. Mong-woo/Hee-soo pleads for her friend, the comfort woman, but Lee In remains resolute. Escaping soldiers, Mong-woo/Hee-soo vows revenge on Lee In. Meanwhile, Lee In instructs the Queen to leave for a temple, ensuring the safety of her son, the Prince Royal. Myung-ha, transferred to a dire town, swears vengeance against Lee In.

Three years later, under the King’s rule, the people live contentedly. A public notice for a strong Baduk player to face the King attracts Mong-woo/Hee-soo, now returning after many years. Her intent: to participate in the contest and confront Lee In, the man she despises.
