Twinkling Watermelon Episode 16 Preview: The K-drama Twinking Watermelon or Sparkling Watermelon (반짝이는 워터멜론) is directed by Son Jong-hyun and written by Jin Soo-Wan. Ryeoun, Choi Hyun-wook, Seol In-ah and Shin Eun-soo will be appearing in the lead roles for the show. The show is expected to have a total of 16 episodes with a runtime of approximately 60 minutes each.

A 15.6 billion won production and supply agreement for the show was signed by production companies Pan Entertainment and Studio Dragon on September 5, 2023. The show takes over tvN’s Monday & Tuesday 8:50 time slot previously occupied by My Lovely Liar.

Twinkling Watermelon Plot

The story centres around a boy who is born and brought up by hearing-impaired parents. Moreover, he has a talent for music and is naturally gifted in the field. However, one day he visits a mysterious musical instruments store and travels back in time to 1995. There, Eun-Gyeol meets Lee Chan, Choi Se-Kyung and Yoon Chung-A. He forms an unlikely bond with them and joins the band formed by his father named Watermelon Sugar. Meanwhile, Lee Chan has a crush on Choi Se-Kyung, who is known as the Cello Goddess of Seowon Arts High School, and tries to win her heart.

The ensemble cast consists of Ryeoun as Eun-gyeol, the only hearing person in a family of deaf people. Choi Hyun-wook as Lee Chan who is a hot-blooded man who seems to have jumped out of a cheerful cartoon. Seol In-ah as Choi Se-kyung, the cello goddess of Seowon Arts High School. Lee So-yeon plays adult Choi Se-kyung. Shin Eun-soo as Yoon Cheong-ah, a cold and arrogant person, who is born deaf. She dreams of a sparkling life like Frida Kahlo.

In the next episode, Yi-chan gets into an accident which leads him to get admitted to a hospital where he remains unconscious. However, the handler asks Eun-gyeol to return to his life back in 2023 because if he does not then his life will disappear. Moreover, Eun-yu also tries to convince him to come back with her to their old lives.

Sparkling Watermelon episode 15 starts with a flashback, which was before Eun-gyeol time travelled. It was the past of Yi-chan where he was still trying to make his band famous. But due to a few miscalculated accidents, they were not able to make it and the band disbanded. However, Yi-chan still attempts to send his record and make a career out of his talent but it leads to an extremely unfortunate accident that causes his hearing problem.

The incident was being retold to Eun-yu by Eun-gyeol’s younger brother in real life. They met at the hospital where he was admitted due to an injury during his taekwondo practice. In the hospital, he comes across a friend of his father from high school through whom he got to know about his father’s past. Eun-yu shares the incident with Eun-gyeol and he finds out that Yi-chan’s accident happened on Memorial Day.

Both Eun-gyeol and Eun-yu get together to stop the accident from happening on the day. They both refuse to accept the fate and change their future by helping each other. Before it is time to leave for the present world, they both promise each other to stop Yi-chan’s accident from happening.

However, Eun-gyeol suddenly gets picked up from the streets by a couple of cops. But the cops turn out to be imposters working for the stepmother instead. They demand Eun-gyeol’s signature on a document stating that he only wanted to be by Cheong-ah’s side because he wanted money.

Cheong-ah’s father and chairman arrive at the house and demand to have a look at the attic. He finds out that the stepmother has been making Cheong-ah stay in the attic as a punishment and fires everyone including the teacher. Eun-gyeol also arrives at the scene by successfully escaping the kidnappers. Moreover, he also provides proof to the Chairman which makes the teacher guilty of embezzlement and she ultimately gets fired from her job at the school as well.

Cheong-ah is called upon by her father to return home and her time in Yi-chan’s house ends. When they reach home, Yi-chan has a conversation with her father where he asks him to express his genuine feelings towards her more. Eun-gyeol leaves Cheong-ah’s house and follows Yi-chan as his goal with his mother has been achieved.

The next day is Memorial Day and he makes sure to help Yichan escape from the brutal accident. Eun-yu calls Eun-gyeol and informs him that the coast is clear and the accident that was supposed to happen with Yi-chan is over. However, she suddenly sees her mother outside the shop. Then she realises that her mother once escaped the house to meet with her biological father.

During a conversation with Eun-yu, En-gyeol realises that he has met her before in his present life. He also realises that Eun-yu’s grandfather is the same man who taught him guitar during his childhood days. As he goes to meet with his mentor, a car suddenly arrives and crashes but Yi-chan pushes him and meets with an accident. The episode ends on that note.
