What happened to Ritwick’s father Subhendu?

Army officer Subhendu was caught in a fraudulent case during the Bangladesh war when his entire battalion was caught by a bunch of activists seeking revenge, including BDS officer Balwant. However, he luckily got away thanks to Bismil, a member of the activist group. He ran away from the ambush, but the entire ordeal resulted in him being persecuted by the law on suspicion that he was involved in the squad’s death, and he has lived his life on the run ever since.

Why did the activists murder Subhendu’s battalion?

Subhendu and his squad were given the responsibility of shutting down two tunnels in Bangladesh, which were being used for illegal activities and arms smuggling. Although the operation was covert, the army found a bunch of people passing through and started to escort them out. Although they clear the area, Balwant’s lover Hussain, one of the activists helping people through the tunnel, is shot by the army men in the first instance. BDS Officer Balwant is left heartbroken, having come to terms with his identity and sexuality with him, and promising a life with him previously. He then swears revenge on the army men.

kaala ending explained

Balwant and Hussain met each other at the tunnel for the first time – the former stopping Hussain’s truck of supplies and then being told by higher-ups to let him go. Their relationship grew thanks to this chance meeting and Hussain’s charisma that won Balwant over. However, it ended tragically when his higher-up tortured Hussain for not giving him a cut of the profit and then tipping the army off in order to get rid of his illegal operation.

Who is Shakti Arya?

Naman Arya has been a bone of contention for Ritwick for the longest time. However, what he doesn’t know is that Shakti Arya is Balwant – after identifying as a transgender person, he changed himself to the gender he was comfortable in, and the incident with Hussain pushed him to be blinded by his hunger for power. After a near-death encounter, Balwant flees India and resumes his new identity. Naman is his son from his marriage, who chose to leave with his father.

Does Subhendu get revenge for all the things he and his battalion are made to go through?

After working and living as Adinath, Subhendu makes his plans for revenge over the course of a few years and eventually kills Pradeep Sharma and Shashwat Sharma. While killing the latter, Subhendu comes across Balwant, but he recognises Subhendu and makes a run for it. Subhendu tries killing both of them on the same day, but Balwant makes a run for it and saves himself from Subhendu. In the end, Balwant flees to London.

What is Ritwick’s connection with the 1988 incidents?

Ritwick’s father is Subhendu Mukherjee, the one called a traitor after his battalion is ambushed by armed men. In the present, Ritwick, an IB Officer, is looking into the illegal activities of Naman Arya as he is laundering a ton of money around, which no one is able to get a hold of. However, going after Naman results in him getting dragged into Subhendu’s life as well.

Kaala Episode 7 Ending Explained

In the last episode, Ritwick learns about the past incidents and Shakti Arya’s true identity. He tries to stop the consignment from passing and bringing Naman and Shakti to justice once and for all, but when he goes to stop the trucks, he realises that the trucks are empty and that they have been played. At the last possible moment, as everyone is trying to find out the real consignment and its location, Sitara shoots everyone, and it turns out that she has been working with Shakti Arya all along and foiling their plans and giving away information all along.

Ritwick, having threatened border patrol officers and caused a panic, is arrested, and it seems like things are going to be difficult for him as his life goes down his father’s path.

Kaala is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
