Vaan Moondru Review: A One-Time Watch That Relies On Your Emotional Capacity

Vaan Moondru Review: The new Tamil movie, written and directed by Amr Murugesh, is a test of your emotional range. Featuring Aadhitya Baaskar, Ammu Abhirami, Vinoth Kishan, Abhirami Venkatachalam, Delhi Ganesh and Leela Samson, the movie relies more on your ability to perceive than on evoking emotions using the storyline. But thanks to the actors, the movie is convenient to watch.

I’ll be frank. It is an emotionally heavy film that fails to connect due to flaws in the story. But this shouldn’t stop you from watching it because it has its moments. The execution makes watching it a breeze, and it is only upon introspection (unless you have read this review), that you will realize what’s wrong.

Vaan Moondru Plot/Synopsis

It is the story of 3 pairs (two of them are couples), with each couple having their own issues. At the hospital, one pair is in the general ward as a result of trying to commit suicide after their respective partners left them. Another pair has a pregnant wife suffering from a brain stroke and undergoing treatment, and her husband is by her side throughout. The third one has a wife with a blockage in her heart for whose operation the husband needs a lot of money. How things work out for them is what the film is about.

Vaan Moondru Review: Discussion

First of all, we have to hand it to all the actors, especially Vinoth Kishan and Delhi Ganesh, for doing justice to their roles. None of them went beyond what was required of them, and even in the most emotional moments, they didn’t cross that threshold that leads to overacting. However, it is an emotional ride that many might find too much. This can, in turn, can give rise to a feeling of loathsomeness that results from watching a predictable emotional drama.

The story could have been better because there are flaws. For example, two pairs are evidently bracketed in the same hospital, but we don’t get to see whether the third pair (the wife with the heart blockage) is in the same hospital. This acts as a disconnection. If all three pairs had been communicating with each other, the catharsis would have been stronger.

The thing I found absurd is how the pair with suicidal ideations falls in love or rather decides to be with each other without having any true motivation for the same. It’s just infatuation that leads them to decide to be together once they are discharged. The girl agrees to be with the boy because her mother and another random guy told her that there is a reason she is still alive even after taking poison and that the guy is right for her, respectively. As for the boy, he just falls for her beauty. Cliché.

But thank god for a nice ending. I don’t want to spoil it for you, but although it doesn’t end on a happy note, it turns out to be better than you would expect, considering the grim subject matter. Whether things work out or not is sometimes not upto our control. But there is a certain positivity that comes with making peace with the truth. Only when you embrace the fact of life’s unpredictability does life embrace you back.

Vaan Moondru Review: Final Thoughts

Vaan Moondru delivers in some areas but fails to do so in others. It is a one-time watch due to the way it shows how people’s lives are in many ways similar, and we often connect through pain. However, you might struggle to find a connection between the three pairs since the film makes it seem as if it is clearly trying to connect them, but it, unfortunately, doesn’t work out in that way. And so even if it has an ending that you like, you feel incomplete. The same was the case with me.
