The Uncanny Counter Season 2 Episode 2 Recap and Review: A New Member At Last, and A Sad Goodbye

The Uncanny Counter Season 2 (경이로운 소문 2: 카운터 펀치) brings the return of the supernatural mystery comedy-drama of the same name directed by Yoo Seon-dong. The show stars Cho Kyeong-kyu, Yoo Joon-sang, Kim Se-jeong, Yeom Hye-ran, Ahn Suk-hwan, and Yoo In-soo in the lead roles alongside other cast members.

The new season continues the story of the group of Counters who catch evil spirits from the afterlife who have come in search of immortality. With new members joining the gang and bigger evils coming their way, the Counters are ready for a counterattack and stop anyone who comes their way.

The show will have 12 episodes and be broadcasted on tvN on the Saturday-Sunday slot at 9:20 PM KST time slot previously occupied by See You in My 19th LifeThe Uncanny Counter season 2 episode 2 has a run time of 74 minutes.

The synopsis of the show reads:

Armed with new powers and fresh recruits, the Counters continue their battle against evil demons who feed on humans.

The Uncanny Counter season 2 episode 2 begins with So Mun and Mae-ok making arrangements for the mother-son duo while the police station fills up with goons from the incident. Once again, Mo-tak’s colleagues are stunned upon seeing him make another achievement while on his trip to the toilet.

Elsewhere, a young man named Na Jeok-bong is seen catering to his cows before leaving for a blind date. However, things soon go downhill and while he chases after the woman to return her phone, he sees a truck rushing towards her and saves her life. This is witnessed by Mo-tak who then lets the Wi-Gen know about his wish to hire him as the new Counter.

With this, Gi-Wen approaches Jeok-bong’s consciousness and tells him about the situation as well as what he would need to do as a Counter, following which she leaves him to think about the same. Meanwhile, Min-ji goes to court to hear the verdict which is made in the favour of the one who scammed many including her.

Distressed by this, she waits along with others outside in wait to see him leave but it turns out to be a body double. Suddenly, she feels a pain in her abdomen and decides to leave from another exit, unaware that the man is being held by the three evil spirits in the elevator. The three spirits- Pil-Gwang, Gelly and Wong surround the man and demand their money when the elevator door opens and Min-ji is seen standing out.

Seeing this, Min-ji is pulled inside and is harmed by them. Elsewhere, Joo-seok saves a man who set himself on fire when he gets the news about Min-ji. He rushes to the hospital, only to witness her final moments. So Mun and Ha-na too arrive at this and are stunned by the happenings.

Soon, the funeral is held and Joo-seok cannot help but become furious when thinking about the man who wanted to die having survived while his wife who wanted to live died. So Mun and the others see this and are saddened, later So Mun talks to Gi-Wen who tells him to not be sad for long as they will meet once again in Yung.

On the other hand, the three evil spirits rejoice having gotten the money that had been scammed when Pil-Gwang notices the territory around the city. He understands that there are more Counters in the city and is excited to get hold of their powers as well. Meanwhile, Jeok-bong agrees to become a Counter and Jong-Guk is made to form a contract with him.

The bond is soon formed and Jeok-bong wakes up at the hospital where Mo-tak is waiting to take him to the team. Jeok-bong is welcomed to the team and Ha-na is made to be his mentor, however, it is not easy for him to get on her good side so soon. The group then takes a picture together while hoping to stay alive for long.

Elsewhere, Joo-seok continues to grieve for his wife. The next day, Wong is seen torturing another man at the building where Min-ji was scammed to buy a flat. He notices the territory and is intrigued by it, unaware that Ha-na has detected him because of this.

The team, excluding Jeok-bong and Jang-mul, arrives at the site and begins their search for the victim and Wong. Mae-ok finds the victim and is shocked to see that his bones have been broken and healed again and again. Meanwhile, Ha-na spots Wong and begins to exchange blows with him during which she is able to see his memories.

Soon, Mo-tak arrives to help her out but ends up on the losing side until So Mun arrives to once again save the day. He is able to handle Wong but is distracted by him during which he escapes. This is seen by the Pil-Gwang and Gelly from afar.

The Uncanny Counter Season 2 Episode 2 Ending

Later, Ha-na tells everyone that it was Wong who killed Ms. So in China and she also saw Min-ji in his memories. They decide to check on what really happened to Min-ji by accessing the scam culprit’s memories and Ha-na finds out that she was brutally murdered by Pil-Gwang who handed the weapon to the man.

The group is furious upon finding this and decides to take care of these spirits soon. Elsewhere, Wong tells the others that So Mun is stronger than Pil-Gwang which excites the latter to get his hands on his power. The next day, So Mun makes sketches of the three spirits when the kids that they had saved during the school bus incident arrive for a meal.

While the mood inside the restaurant is happy, Pil-Gwang makes his entrance and So Mun sees the enemy he has to face in front of his eyes.

The Uncanny Counter Season 2 Episode 2 Review

Episode 2 brings the end of the premiere weekend of the new season of The Uncanny Counter and this has definitely been quite a rollercoaster for us all. From the entry of the newest member to the sad goodbye of an innocent victim, we have seen everything in this episode.

On the other hand, the actors playing the evil spirits are really doing a good job because we can definitely feel our blood boiling every time they appear. And this brings us to the excitement and anticipation that we hold for the day when the Counters finally face these spirits.

Altogether, this was a wonderful first weekend of the show and we are definitely looking forward for more.
