Nick and Charlie are in love, and we’re in love with how they’re in love, and that’s just the Heartstopper Season 2 trailer put together in a single line, with lots of nervous energy riding on each of these characters’ backs of course. Starring the soft-hearted Charlie played by Joe Locke and our lovely rugby player Nick Nelson played by Kit Connor, the series is waving all its fans “Hi” again this August.
Based on the widely loved young adult graphic novel series created by Alice Osman, the Netflix series had first premiered in 2022, and now a year later, we’re getting back what we truly wanted the most – the Season 2 premiere. Also starring Yasmin Finney, William Gao, Olivia Colman, Corinna Brown, Rhea Norwood, and others in pivotal roles, the show has been approved for a forthcoming Season 3 as well in the future.
For now, let’s stick to the upcoming sequel at hand, for which, Netflix has finally revealed the full trailer and it’s nothing short of heart fluttering moments, and all things good that make the series so loved. The new trailer video hints at the story to come next, which is largely based on the third volume of Osman’s graphic novel series in addition to many new creative additions to the text. It focusses primarily on Nick’s decision to come out to the rest of the world after having confided in his mother last season and the rest of his charming friend circle with Charlie.
While the sparks between them are well and alive, their friends also struggle with their own personal stories. Charlie puts no pressure on Nick to take the plunge and even helps ease his mind because he doesn’t want his experience of coming out to be as traumatic as his own. Yet he can’t help but feel rushed by his own thoughts at the end of the day.
Complications are just starting to get bigger. And while he’s out dealing with his share of issues, Elle and Tao are caught in their own soft story of new love. For most of Season 1, Tao was largely portrayed as Charlie’s protective friend, however, as the season came to its close, his mutual feelings for Elle became more and more evident, just like his anxieties surrounded by thoughts of messing up their well-grounded friendship.
New changes are about to happen with a new year, which also involve Tao’s mother “moaning at him to get a haircut”. But more pressing issues at hand fuel him with thoughts of losing his best friend if their relationship doesn’t work out well. Meanwhile, Tara and Darcy’s side of the story also gets caught in some tensions.
Nick constantly feels weird and on edge after coming out to their closed circle, and this sense of insecurity is further heightened by Ben, Charlie’s ex-clandestine boyfriend’s presence in the mix. However, the whole scene isn’t all tragic and sad, because the school trip to Paris promises new adventures, further diving deep into what love is made of. With all that is happening around them, at least one thing is assured and validated – sometimes it’s just okay to feel whatever you’re feeling, and not have everything figured out. And that’s exactly why this TV show has become one of the warmest and safest havens for many children, young adults, and adults all over the world alike.
