Devil’s Advocate Plot

When a famous footballer’s wife ends up brutally murdered, and he becomes the primary suspect, attorney Loulwa can’t not help the man she thinks is innocent. However, is the story as simple as Bader being simply innocent? Or are there layers of truth that Loulwa hasn’t uncovered yet that points to a painful relationship? Who murdered Dalal? Was it really Bader? Or did her myriad mental health issues finally catch up to her?

Devil’s Advocate Ending Explained

Devil’s Advocate starts with a frantic phone call from Bader to the police, exclaiming that his wife has died. Bader becomes the immediate and primary suspect, considering there were no signs of forced entry and the lack of witnesses. The news of the famous footballer’s arrest reaches the news, and attorney Loulwa, out on holiday, gets the phone call to come back to Kuwait.

Intrigued by the case, she goes against her father and takes Bader as her client, promising to prove that he is innocent. While going through the case, we are made aware of the painful reality that Bader’s wife Dalal was suffering from some depression and was seeing a therapist, she had attempted to end her life once previously, but she was a soft-hearted and good person who would stop at nothing to help someone in distress. Looking into Bader’s past, Loulwa also gets to know that his mother is in a mental hospital and has been there for the past 15 years after his father disappeared one fine day.

Along with Loulwa’s investigation, we also have the police investigating the case and in charge of it is her ex Yousef, with whom she has a sordid past. As the case goes to trial, we are further shown Bader and Dalal’s relationship – they had some issues surrounding Dalal’s jealousy and suicidal tendencies, but Bader has always tried to be beside his wife’s side. He even accepted his wife’s infertility and promised never to leave her. On the final day of the trial, Bader is declared innocent since there is not enough proof to prove otherwise.

Now a free man, Bader and Loulwa realise that they might have feelings for one another and start to meet up. Elsewhere, realising that something is amiss, Dalal and Bader’s previous housekeeper comes back to Kuwait to meet her former boss. When she learns that she is dead, she goes to the police to let them know the name of the real perpetrator. Unfortunately, she is murdered before the police can get to her, and the evidence is also nowhere to be seen.

As Bader and Loulwa grow closer further, she starts to change and grow distant. Her best friend notices and warns her to stay away from Bader, which Loulwa refuses to accept and decides to cut her off from her life. After her father’s tragic death, Loulwa disappears for a few months, and, upon returning, she and Bader decide to tie the knot. Elsewhere, Loulwa’s best friend figures out that it was Loulwa who murdered Dalal from one of the latter’s old YouTube videos. She warns Bader of the real killer, and he confronts Loulwa, but there seems to be more understanding between the two than we had previously been wary of.

Devil's Advocate Ending Explained

How did Loulwa and Dalal know each other? Why did Loulwa kill Dalal?

Freshly broken up with Yousef, Dalal, depressed after being abandoned by her fiance and mother (whose death she couldn’t accept), tries to end her life by the side of the road in Devil’s Advocate. She is found by Dalal, who takes her to the hospital, and this starts a friendship between the two of them. However, Dalal’s constant complaining about her mother and husband got to Loulwa, who dreamt of having something like this but has been denied that happiness.

In the end, Loulwa murders Dalal in a jealous fit of rage and (probably) to get Bader for herself.

What did Dalal have on Bader?

Bader’s father was an alcoholic abuser who constantly hit him and his mother. One night, as a teenager, Dalal filmed from the window, Bader’s father hit him mercilessly. His mother tried to stop her husband from abusing their son, but when that doesn’t go anywhere, she murders him to stop him. Dalal and Bader then get rid of the body, but she had filmed the entire interaction and held it over his head whenever he tried to do anything for himself.

The incident probably also had a significant impact on Dalal’s psyche and probably made her paranoid as well.

Did Loulwa and Bader plan on murdering Dalal?

The last scene is really confusing considering, after learning that Loulwa might be a murderer, Bader confronts her, but then both of them look at each other curiously… as if they had both planned it. It ends on a cliffhanger, but their faces make it seem like he had known the truth for a long time.

  1. No he didn’t know Louwla killed Dalal. He confronted Louwla after her best friend told him and asked her how she did it then he killed her and called 911. In the last scene, the police came and he told the 911 operator that he killed his wife. Here, we understand that he really seemed to love Dalal and would kill whoever responsible.
