Anime has consistently been a provider of joy across age and genre, and that is probably because they generally grapple with real-life problems through rich worldbuilding and storytelling, like Ōoku The Inner Chambers. While many choose to focus on the fact that it was created for young boys with very little penchant for propriety, the new generation of Anime coming from such brilliantly written manga shows how the genre keeps evolving. With a role reversal like the one teased in this series, there are certainly some nuggets of humour to be witnessed.
Directed by Noriyuki Abe, this series is written by Takasugi Rika, Rika Takasugi and Fumi Yoshinaga. The music has been done by Kenji Kawai, while Yôko Satô joins as a character designer in the animation department. Takasugi also serves as the composer of some of the music in the series.

Ōoku The Inner Chambers Plot/Synopsis
When we start the trailer, the first thing we see is the shogun, who walks in with a grace like no other. She drives her eyes across the men bowing before her, waiting for her to give a single command so they can be at her service. The narrator introduces us to this world where the men’s and women’s roles are reversed. While the women go around smoking and frolicking, the men stay away from the public eye.

But the narrator is quite generous. They take us through the history of this region, the reason why such a gender-swapped world came into being in the first place. As we are taken to the past, we see a woman left by her betrothed, shamed in front of everyone. However, there are two people falling in love in the next scene, while some others talk about how the woman is only here to further the bloodline of a specific reign. By the end of the trailer, we get a small glimpse into the past, the beginnings of what makes this story go and how Arikoto came to be the first female shogun.
