5 Shows Like Asur Season 2 That Will Captivate Your Mind

Sacred Games

How can we not mention Sacred Games if we are talking about dark and twisted crime thrillers? In 2018, when Netflix dropped the first season, it became an instant hit. Whether it was the friendship between Sartaj Singh and Ashok Katekar or the dialogues, especially by Ganesh Gaitonde, people were obsessed with it. SG also tackles the complicated subject of good and bad and to what extent one can destroy/save the world.

Directed by Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Neeraj Ghaywan, it stars Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte, Kalki Koechlin, Pankaj Tripathi, Jatin Sara, Rajshri Deshpande, Jitendra Joshi and others. Both seasons are currently streaming on Netflix.

Paatal Lok

The Prime Video crime thriller stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Gul Panag, Ishwar Singh, Swastika Mukherjee, Neeraj Kali and Abhishek Banerjee. In the series, Hathiram Chowdhary (Jaideep Ahlawat), a hot-headed cop, has to get his hands on the killers of a renowned journalist. One of them is Hathoda Tyagi, the cruellest of all. But the investigation is different from what Chowdhary has done before. The more he hunts for the truth, the tragic the revelations become. Just like Asur, Pataal Lok blends mythology in today’s time with concepts like Svarga, Dharti and Paatal (heaven, earth and hell).

Directed by Avinash Arun and Prosit Roy, the series will make you a big fan of Jaideep and Abhishek. Amid all the convoluted storytelling, you will be irked at Hathiram and creeped out by Hathoda’s actions. The series is not only dark but also quite distressing to watch. So make sure you are in a state of mind to consume extremely intense content.

Squid Game

No one will forget the craze Squid Game brought amongst viewers with its deadly adventurous story. The Korean thriller stars Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Heo Sung-tae, Wi Ha-joon, Jung Ho-yeon, and others. In the series, hundreds of people who are either broke or in massive financial debt are given a chance to win money. These people have to pass various dangerous levels to get what they want. But there’s a price to pay.

Whoever fails to pass any level ends up dead. So is the risk worth taking? For our characters in the show, it is! Along with the mystery, the makers treat us with some light moments, friendly bonds between characters, and betrayal. The narrative is so gripping that you can’t help but binge it in one go.

Behind Her Eyes

The limited thriller show stars Simona Brown, Eve Hewson, Tom Bateman, Robert Aramayo, and others. It is based on Sarah Pinborough’s novel of the same name. The series starts with a meet-cute between David and Louise at a bar. What astounds you next is David is married to a woman named Adele. He’s a psychiatrist and Louise’s new boss. So it’s an awkward situation at work. But Louise’s personal life also loses the normalcy it had.

The more we learn about David-Adele’s married life, the greater is our concern for Louise. The series packs in a LOT of secrets, black magic and manipulation in just 6 episodes. Behind Her Eyes aptly explains that there’s more than what meets the eye. You can watch it on Netflix.

The Sinner

There’s a reason why a criminal commits a crime. The reasons can be many – pleasure, past trauma, impulse and aggressive behaviour or by mistake. In The Sinner, Detective Harry Ambrose, played by Bill Pullman, digs deep into the minds of several criminals to find out why they killed someone. It’s an anthology series, and every episode is riveting. Along with the culprits, we also get an insight into Ambrose’s troubled past.

The solid storytelling for every chapter, the suspense and the stellar cast will impress you from start to end. You can binge all 4 seasons on Netflix.
