Citadel Episode 5 Review & Recap

Citadel Episode 5 again takes us back to when Nadia and Mason were together. After the Oz key drama, Mason proposes to Nadia. She initially believes it is a joke.

The timeline shifts to the present. After learning that Celeste is alive, Anders tries to untie Bernard. But Dahlia shoots Anders, and she then gets into a war of words with Bernard again. He tells Dahlia that Thomas would’ve been so upset if he had seen what she was doing, stating that she murdered thousands of people. But Dahlia justifies her actions by calling these people criminals.

The story again shifts to a decade ago when Nadia discovers Bernard backstopped Celeste. She finds out that Mason was aware of the same. When Nadia confronts Mason, he says he did it to protect her. It was Nadia who took the Oz key. Mason says he didn’t ask her who she worked for as he didn’t want to know the real truth about her. He was afraid of what he would find out.

Nadia tells Mason that she destroyed the Oz key as no one can be trusted with that kind of power. She tells Mason to react to Celeste’s memories. Mason tells Nadia that he wiped Celeste’s memory from the system to protect her as he loves her. Everything Mason tells Nadia angers her even more.

Nadia meets a man called Rahi Gambhir, and he gives her a passport to go to Valencia. Rahi tells Nadia to be careful with whatever she plans to do with Citadel. The narrative shifts back to the present timeline. Carter Spence tells Mason not to trust Nadia as she worked for Manticore with a known terrorist Rahi Gambhir.

Dahlia gives Bernard a last warning to give the password by threatening to kill his people in Miami. He gives her the password, yet she launches the attack. Joe and Abby try to escape from the base they’ve been living in. Davik informs Dahlia that Nadia and Mason took Carter with them. Carter still doesn’t trust Nadia, and she isn’t aware of why he despises her so much.

So what exactly is Nadia hiding about the Oz key and Rahi Gambhir? Why does Carter hate her so much? What will be Dahlia’s next move?

Citadel Episode 5 was another big disappointment. At this point, the plot twists are predictable, and they are not even good. My initial issue has been Priyanka Chopra-Jonas and Richard Madden’s chemistry. It is so bad that watching them as a couple together is not fun. So whenever the timeline takes us a decade back, you want to scroll ahead from their scenes together.

The revelation of what happened to the Oz key and Nadia’s “big” secret don’t land well. After so much weird drama about Celeste last week, it wasn’t hard to guess what happened to the Oz key. The makers haven’t been doing a good job of keeping you hooked on the mystery. The plot isn’t layered or deep; it’s just floating on the surface. What are these agents running from or running towards when no big threat is established? You can’t say Dahlia because she has hardly done anything yet to be called the villain.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the second last episode has nothing good to offer. It only keeps getting worse. The ambiguity of everything related to Citadel, Manticore and the agents is constant and frustrating. We really long for some thrill in this spy action thriller.

The new episode is now streaming on Prime Video.
