-True to Love Episode 9 Recap and Review Contain Spoilers-
After an eventful day and an unexpected end, both Bo-ra and Su-hyeok seem to be going over the events that happened. Not being able to come to a conclusion, they decide to pretend as if nothing happened. Su-hyeok even tries to cancel the book altogether but Sang-jin tells him that they will have to pay the penalty & the landlord (which is his mother) will kick them out, as he is refusing to go on arranged dates for marriage.
Not being able to get out of the situation, Su-hyeok heads out to meet Bo-ra for work. There Yu-jeong misunderstands her friend & thinks that she did some mistake, like peeing on the road again. Therefore, she asks him a favour to pretend as if nothing happened & even forgive Bo-ra for the mistake. He thinks that Bo-ra told Yu-jeong about last night & seems a bit upset about the word ‘mistake’, however, he goes along with her request.
When Bo-ra finally meets him, she starts blabbering anything that goes in her head, making things worse and awkward. He asks her to cut the crap & get to work instead. To be sure that nothing like that happens again, she confirms his feelings for her. But she gets a firm ‘NO’, it hurts her a bit. Even if she didn’t have feelings for him she wanted him to like her.

They move on to work, and he asks about her next plans for Ju-wan. Bo-ra replies that she plans on doing nothing and let the past memories take over his mind, that he comes looking for her. Meanwhile, she will be working on making herself get prettier, so that he feels mesmerised at a glance. On the other hand, Su-hyeok’s every action – from applying lip balm to helping with the seat belt gives her flashbacks & misunderstands everything.
As for the other couple, Jin-ho and Bo-mi seem to be getting along well but being his first time, he follows all the textbook dating advice to the T. Instead of communicating with his girlfriend, he tries to do all the nice things for her but it doesn’t go according to the plan. While the married couple is dealing with a roadblock in their relationship.
Yu-jeong shares how they have to reserve each other’s time, in order to spend some intimate time together. Yet one day, despite promising each other, Jin-woo makes the excuse of meeting his friend Young-hoon who just came from abroad. But it turns out to be a lie when the same friend turns up at the restaurant, looking for him. Thinking that Jin-woo must be cheating on her, she pries on him and is relieved to know that he met up with Ju-wan & not another girl.

In order to get pretty, Bo-ra goes around town getting skin treatments and even signed up at the gym with none other than, Su-hyeok, because they were getting 50% off. Yu-jeong was the one who took her there and seeing the two of them together, she speculates that something must be going on. While prodding her, she spills how Su-hyeok was so against getting Bo-ra on board for the book & working with her has been emotionally tough.
It upsets Bo-ra that he still dislikes her so much & starts saying anything in her furious embarrassment. However, Su-hyeok unintentionally hears everything, how she boasts about seducing any man like him & thinks so little of him. It makes him furious & decides to ignore both of them, even threatening to sue them for degrading defamation.
As their relationship takes a bad turn, on top of that Yu-jeong’s boss, Su-jin turns up at the restaurant. She asks for their company on a ‘day like this’, which could be implied to the day she got married/divorced. Also, she blames Yu-jeong for introducing Sang-jin to him & even Bo-ra relates, as she was the one putting all the thoughts about getting proposed to.

Instead of sulking together over their failed relationships & sexless marriage, they decide to go out and let out some steam. Unfortunately, they catch Bo-mi outside the restaurant, who had come to meet Jin-ho. Thus, she is also dragged to a club where men try to hit on every one of them & Bo-mi texts it all to Jin-ho. Sang-jin was also feeling down & somehow turns up at the same club with Su-hyeok. He tries to meet up with some girls who would join them & ends up inviting Bo-ra along with his ex-wife to the table.
Summing Up: True to Love Episode 9
Honestly, the episode was a letdown from the previous ones. After being so devastated over her break-up, Bo-ra’s change of mind with just one kiss seems too sudden. Instead of vocalising all her thoughts, how every action looked like he was about to kiss her, it should have been shown as her inner conflict and would have been much funnier to watch. Her actions felt too cringe and definitely came out as self-obsessed.
So far Su-hyeok has been too stoic about it, maybe we will see his perspective in the next episode. But if we never get his point of view, then it would be a bummer. Looking at the preview, they seem to have patched things up again though.
True to Love (Bo-ra! Deborah) is currently available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
