The Boogeyman Trailer Breakdown

While the original story has similar origins to the one in this film, separate aspects are highlighted in this trailer that indicates that the film may have something far more sinister. We start by seeing the main character Sawyer in a therapist’s office. She has been extremely afraid of the dark, and that is because she suspects that something is coming for her. However, her sister, Sadie, doesn’t believe her stories, chalking it up to an overactive imagination or a deeply traumatic manifestation coming to life.

We start to get a sense that even in a safe space like the therapist’s office, there is something lurking in the background. While her sister still doesn’t believe in the Boogeyman story, Sawyer continues to live in fear, seeing her closet door open and close in a fashion that is eerie above all. Their father is absent from their lives and only makes an appearance for a little while. According to the short story, he becomes the linchpin in all the terrible things that happen to the family, and maybe his absentee nature that, as we can see from the trailer, is coming from this sense to protect his kids.

Now that Sadie and Sawyer’s mother is dead, it would not make sense for the dad to be around the kids while he is saddled with such an entity. However, it finds the kids anyways, and their house becomes a warzone. Even Sadie has to believe that there is a harmful entity in the house because it attacks her as she slams the door on her sister. Sawyer was so scared after the incident at the therapist’s office that the duo now sleep in the same bed together.

However, Sadie, the high school kid, needs her own space, and while Sawyer may not be allowed to enter, the monster has no such qualms. Slamming through the door, it levels her. Their house is now a collection of black vines, ready to bring it down from within. Like the lore of every children’s monster, this one, too, spends its time hiding under Sawyer’s bed while she has to face this thing alone. The father has to come to terms with the fact that when he’s not paying attention to his kids, they are being attacked by this fear-inducing entity.

Staying away is not an option now. The next few shots in the trailer show how the kids cannot catch a break because they are constantly afraid of something coming and capturing them. However, as the trailer almost comes to an end, it is revealed that these monsters may just be the little kids killed by the OG monster, and their death binds them to this entity. It’s just Sawyer against this barrage of homicidal little kids.

Finally, the trailer ends with the monster taking the girls’ father through his front door. While this reveals that the monster is not confined to a location, it does enjoy committing its crimes in the darkness and comfort of the home. This trailer makes it seem really interesting because it would be amazing to see what backstory and traumas lurk behind to give birth to such a dark entity.
