The Magician’s Elephant is an animated movie that premiered on March 17, 2023, on Netflix. The film is based on the two-time Newbery Award-winning author Kate DiCamillo’s classic novel of the same name. Wendy Rogers directs the film, and Martin Hynes gives the screenplay. Julia Pistor and Jennifer Teter are credited as the producers.
With a runtime of 96 minutes, the plot of the film follows an orphaned boy in search of an elephant which he believes will help him find his lost sister. The voice cast features Noah Jupe in the lead role as Peter alongside Natasia Demetriou, Brian Tyree Henry, Mandy Patinkin, Miranda Richardson, Cree Summer, Lorraine Toussaint, Benedict Wong, Aasif Mandvi, Sian Clifford and more.
The Magician’s Elephant Ending Explained
After Peter finds out that the Elephant longs to go back to its home and family in a dreamy sequence, he is determined to help her. He let go of his selfish motives even though the fortune teller said that the magnificent creature will take him to his sister. Eventually, he realises that the elephant is innocent and should be sent back to its natural habitat. Moreover, the Elephant started to grow anxious with each passing day, and its health rapidly deteriorated.
Did the Elephant go home?
Peter reaches out to the Magician who brought the Elephant accidentally. He urges the Magician to send him back, but due to self-doubt, he refuses. However, after much convincing, the Magician agrees. The Elephant is taken outside the palace and to the open grounds so the magician and cast his spell. He starts to chant unique charms, and Peter hugs the Elephant one last time. After a while, the Elephant is gone, and the sun rises, making all the snow melt away.
Did Peter reunite with his sister?
Adele convinces her caregiver to follow the Elephant because she saw her in her dreams. They reach the open grounds and witness the Elephant disappearing into thin air. She walks over to Peter and converses with him. Meanwhile, as the nun was about to take her away, she met Peter’s grandfather, and they recognised each other. They believed each other to be dead a long time back. Eventually, they realise that Adele is still alive, and both siblings happily reunite.
Later, both Peter and Adele started to live together, along with their grandfather and the nun. Leo and his wife also joined the family. On the other hand, the Elephant went back to its family and lived a long and fulfilling life.
