Urusei Yatsura Episode 19 Review and Recap – Drunk Lum

Urusei Yatsura Episode 19 Review: Bizzare Pets of Mendo Family
Still From Urusei Yatsura

Episode 19 is here, and we are back again with another review. Today’s episode starts with Mendo taking his friends, including Ataru, Lum, Shinobu, Ryuunosuke, and others, to his house. There they meet the most treasured possessions of the Mendos, who might be animals to others but are precious like family, to them.

They are so important that they even resemble the emblem of the Mendo family, and they are none other than cute little red octopuses. But sadly, nobody is impressed by meeting these creatures, and Mendo angrily takes them to see the most important octopus called Matsuchiyo. It lives in the extreme cold, which is why there is a literal weather-changing chamber in Mendo’s house.

But again, Ataru and his friends did not find anything special about this one as well, as it is just the same octopus in blue colour. Feeling insulted, Matsuchiyo runs away, and every one, along with Ataru, starts to search for him for their own benefit.

In this quest, all of them head into the personalized greenhouse of the Mendo family, where they keep almost every wild animal as a reservation. This is not a place where one should feel safe as it lurks with black panthers and crocodiles. Here, we understand why Mendo was scared of leaving his special blue octopus somewhere other than in freezing temperatures.

The next part focused on Ten coming to Ataru’s school and getting drunk on umeboshi. Not only him, but even Lum, after eating this pickled treat, started to behave erratically and gave shocks to almost everyone in school. This resulted in a hilarious situation and utter chaos. Lum especially targets ATaru as he cheats on her so often. We also see her moods changing from loving to angry in a second.

Ten with his fire and Lum with her electric shocks are a deadly combo, who did whatever they wanted after getting wasted. Lastly, the teacher, Sakura, and even Cherry come to solve this whole mess, but Ataru still gets electrocuted by Lum.

Verdict

Again this episode was bizarre, whimsical, and funny. The first half and the second half were mostly unrelated to each other, but both delivered satisfactory comedy to their audience. Some might not vibe with the jokes, used here as they are very random, but I enjoyed it to the fullest. Watch the anime on HIDIVE if you haven’t yet.
