Come dawn, the travelling duo hike all the way to the end of the river and see there isn’t much to be afraid of until they are surrounded by a pack of people on horses. They are thoroughly sniffed and pat down before being taken to a secure location. They find Tommy there, and after a hearty reunion, they ask for his help.

However, Tommy has become comfortable in a closed gated community. Starting a family and taking care of the people around him has rendered it impossible to go out. Joel still manages to convince his brother to take Ellie because he has been getting old and tired. He almost got Ellie killed twice and wasn’t about to let that happen again. By the end of the episode, Joel’s condition has gotten worse, stab wounded and stranded.

Viewers are taken aback by the emotionality of this episode. This is a survivalist show, and it still manages to make the best of them cry every episode. This time they share images, videos and messages in all caps, exclaiming how it has made them sad even though they know what will happen next.
