Vikings Valhalla Season 2 Review: Ruthless, Energetic and Peak Adventure

Vikings Valhalla Season 2 is a total standout continuation of the Vikings saga, which features the historical legends of the ancient Scandinavian throne, Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter), Freydits Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson), as they expand and bring glory to their ancient empire. The show is created by Jeb Stuart and is divided into eight episodes with an average runtime of fifty minutes each.

The cast of the new season includes Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Bradley James, Marcin Dorociński, Nikolai Kinski and Bradley Freegard. Furthermore, the series is produced by Mark Murdoch and Cáit Collins, under the banner of Metropolitan Films International, History, and MGM Television.

-Vikings Valhalla Season 2 Review Does Not Contain Spoilers-

The second season of Vikings Valhalla is a complete all-out feat that infuses the spirit of bold adventure and fills you with a plethora of adrenaline-pumped enthusiasm. Moreover, right from episode 1, the historical show lifts all the expectations and stands tall on each and every one of them.

Season 2 starts on a challenging note for the trio of Viking successors (Leif, Harald and Freydis), who find themselves in a tumult of setbacks that eventually pushes them into separate pathways. The grand legacy of the historical rulers is yet to take shape, while the matter of their fate remains undecided.

There is a constant layer of tension that surrounds the titular characters. Something that also forms the basis of the thematic journey in the season. Moreover, this works as a distinct element (that separates it from the trajectory of the Vikings Valhalla Season 1), with the main objective to survive and fight back, at all costs.

The parallel storyline of London provides a smooth transition from action to strategy. And works as the perfect blend of themes. Moreover, whenever the scene shifts from the hardcore gritty Viking fight to the subtle power struggle in central London, it curates a much-needed balance in the series. Something that feels thoroughly satisfying and engaging.

The most underrated part about the entire Vikings franchise is the beacon of impactful performances, which has been passed successfully in the series spin-off. Especially, Sam Corlett, who turns in a remarkably felt portrayal, along with Frida Gustavsson and Bradley James.

All in all, the series lives up to its potential and never fails to back its core strength. Even though there is a vacant space in the middle episodes, the breathtaking climax makes up for all the pacing issues. Plus, there are several intensive moments of gore, power, trust and betrayal that makes the legend of the Vikings, even more, surreal than before.

Even if you are not a history buff, the show has the conviction to pull you in completely and make it more about the characters than the mythology alone. Furthermore, a little patience in the starting episodes will definitely lead you to a soul-satisfying payoff.

Notably, the show was already green-lit for a third season after the successful reception of the first. Therefore, you can expect a lot more Viking action coming your way, in the future.
