Urusei Yatsura Episode 8 Review and Recap – An Interesting Past

Today’s episode was definitely entertaining as we got another new character with a dynamic personality. It begins with the teacher of Ataru’s school getting to know that a new student will join his class.

Then a girl comes in with her gigantic alien father to enrol herself. And yes, you have guessed it right, it is Lum who will be joining Ataru in his school from now on.

Every guy in the class is thrilled to have her, as it is a dream come true for them. But Lum’s own husband, Ataru, chokes on his food the moment he sees her. It can be understood that he is not at all happy that now he will have to deal with Lum even more than ever.

But she is not alone, there is another transfer student that joined the next class. She is not only pretty but also soft-spoken and cute. Everybody quickly gets attracted to her, and she easily makes new friends.

Ataru obviously does not leave this opportunity to flirt with her but is quickly dragged by a very angry Lum. She even threatens the poor girl called Ran to come and meet her as Lum has something to tell her.

It is only later that we get to know that Ran is actually an alien and she is a childhood friend of Lum. They meet and greet each other excitedly and reminisce about their happy past.

This is when we get some interesting news. Lum and Ran fell in love with the same guy, and Lum even managed to make him her fiance. But something happened, and she broke off that engagement and became Ataru’s wife.

While remembering this, Ran’s true personality got revealed, and we see that she is not at all what she pretends to be. And her main motive in coming to earth was not meeting with Lum but taking revenge on her. This time she will suck the life out of Ataru by kissing him and exact revenge.

Lum definitely will not let something like this happen, but sadly, she can not do much. And that is how we see how Ran desperately tries to kiss Ataru and Lum tries to save him, while Ataru himself excitedly awaits Ran’s kiss.

Verdict

A new character joined this already cast-heavy series, and I am not all complaining. The most interesting fact about this anime is its absurdness which I at least love very much. The new character is not like the other girls in whom Ataru shows interest, and I am eager to see how she will influence the series in the future. Watch the anime on HIDIVE if you haven’t yet.
