Qala Music Review: Symphony of Perfection

The upcoming Netflix film Qala has already made enough buzz on the internet due to its incredible array of music. Each and every musical number from the movie is bound to touch your heart and resonate with the symphony of love. Moreover, the complete album of the musical drama consists of six songs composed by the soulful genius Amit Trivedi (Udaan, Dev D) and written by national award-winning lyricists like Varun Grover, Swanand Kirkire, and Kausar Munir.

The plot of the feature is set in the forties and revolves around a talented playback singer (played by Tripti Dimri), who shines in the budding industry, through her soulful voice and persona. Furthermore, music is indeed the core element of the film and it sure does reflect in the meticulously crafted album. So far, the audio versions of the songs have been released on the official platforms, along with some music videos featuring the cast of the movie. Therefore, if you are wondering to reflect on the blissful songs from the flick, here is a detailed list of the complete EP.

Ghodey Pe Sawaar

As the title suggests, the song dictates the adorable rush of a lover, in an attempt to vow to her partner and is composed by Amit Trivedi. The lyrics of the song are written by Amitabh Bhattacharya, while it is sung by the melodious Sireesha Bhagavatula. The entire feel of the song reminds you of some immortal tracks of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle and perfectly encapsulates the innocence of the era.

Phero Na Najariya

This Awadhi language track written by Kausar Munir takes you into a trance of emotions and leaves you with a plethora of feelings. The song is a lovely tribute to the pure and pious nature of love and connects deeply through its hard-hitting notes.

There is no reason why Phero Na Najariya is an instant classic, that will definitely take a special place on your soulful playlist. Moreover, the track is brought to life by Sireesha Bhagavatula and is picturised on the lead actress Tripti Dimri.

Nirbhau Nirvair

The song starts with a verse from Sant Kabir and later transforms into an engrossing tale of separation and the inevitable. It is written by Anvitaa Dutt and sung by Shahid Mallya, and combines different emotions into one single unit.

It is also one of the songs from the film that has been released in video form, and features Babil Khan, singing the meaningful composition.

Udh Jaayega

Udh Jayega is another simplistic yet hard-hitting song from the album, that starts with another verse from Sant Kabir. In fact, the influence of the poet can be seen on the entire EP, and on these two songs in particular.

It is sung by Shahid Mallya, and has all the elements of a classical number, along with Sitar and Sarangi’s playing in the background. Therefore, if you are a fan of such classy composition, then this is not something you should miss out on.

Rubaaiyaan

One of the most loved songs from the album, which also features in the teaser trailer for the film is Rubaaiyaan. The track is woven by Swanand Kirkire and the vocals are provided by Shahid Mallya.

Rubai is an Urdu word which refers to a stanza-oriented poem. And the song itself translates into a Rubai of Love, generated through sheer feelings of compassion. Notably, one can easily categorise Rubaaiyaan as the most popular single from the album.

Shauq

Last but not the least, Shauq, is one of those rare songs, that have the power to diminish the line between reality and imagination. It’s my personal favourite track from the EP and is written by the lyrical genius Varun Grover.

Notably, Grover is also making an acting debut in the film, along with his lyrical contribution. The song is also available in the video version and is a pure and illustrious treat to the eyes.

You can stream the film on Netflix, starting from the 1st of December 2022. While the entire album is officially out on Youtube. Let us know your favourite track from the album in the comment section below.
