The Patient Episode 5 has a lot of things going on and the end is one devasting, gut-churning event that leaves you shocked. Created by Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg, the series has executive producers Joel Fields, Joe Weisberg, Steve Carell, Caroline Moore, Victor Hsu and Chris Long. The production companies for the series include Joel Fields Productions, Flim Flam and FXP. The main cast features Steve Carell as Alan Strauss, a therapist and Domhnall Gleeson as Sam Fortner, a serial killer and the new patient of our therapist in question.
Actors Linda Emond plays Candace Fortner along with Laura Niemi as Beth Strauss, Andrew Leeds as Ezra Strauss and David Alan Grier as Charlie Addison. Alex Rich is also part of the cast. The Patient is slated to be ten episodes long with the third episode having a runtime of 23 minutes.
The Patient Episode 5 Ending Explained
The Patient Episode 5 is filled with some interesting turns and twisty events that might make one’s stomach churn. The episode begins with Sam meeting this ex-wife, Mary but, the meeting does not provide much of a distraction for Sam’s killing urges and is rather awkward. When he returns home, he is determined to kill Elias but, Candace’s intervention prevents it but, only for some time.

Towards the end of the episode, we see both Alan and Sam restless from their sleep. Sam wakes up and goes to meet Alan and the two have a session. During this session Alan tries to throw this feedback and analysis of Sam at him but, it surely goes beyond him. Thus, Alan requests Sam to bring Elias out and let him speak. He anticipates that this could help Sam know Elias better and could prevent the latter’s death. Otherwise, Elias has also suggested Alan get him out of the prison room so they can both attack Sam. Keeping this in mind, Alan requests that Sam has a session in the presence of Elias.
However, what Alan anticipates is not fruitful. When, Elias starts talking about his life, scared, obviously, Sam grows agitated as his killing instincts kick in. Unfortunately, the burnt of the situation is suffered by Elias. We see Sam ultimately throw himself at Elias after pushing him back and choking him. Alan calls for help from Candace but, gets no assistance as the mother is seen creeping into her bed in fear. Alas, Elias dies due to Sam’s choking which Alan ends up witnessing, leaving him traumatized.
The Patient Episode 5 ends with Alan grabbing onto his bed, shattered and shocked. Sam leaves the room and goes to his bedroom to uncover a box that contains a lot of wallets, possibly souvenirs from his kills. He hugs it as Alan shivers thinking about what would happen next.
